Steve ***** was convinced yesterday on Miller's show, that they were going to offer Bob Stoops within 24 hours.

First time I've heard that name and Michigan together. A big stretch.

However, it certainly wouldn't suck.

Let the "KF to OU" rumors begin! :biglaugh:

Everybody talks about a pay cut, but I'm not sure I agree that it's an issued. He's made more money than he'll ever need at Iowa. Michigan is the better overall job. Let's say he makes half of what he's making now. Wouldn't that be worth the cut? It's not like he's in dire financial staits.

Drop Iowa and take the job. Win big games, beat OSU, compete for the Big Ten title/BCS spot and money will take care of itself. It really shouldn't be an issue. It'll be there eventually.

I agree. He can easily still get 1.5+ million from Mich and be rich as hell.

Has KF made ANY statements about absolutely staying at Iowa next season? If someone has seen that quote, I'd love a source.

There were rumors put out by one poster on a Hawk board over a week ago that KF withdrew his name from the MI job but nobody ever had a good source and obviously he hasn't even been seen in about two weeks. He hasn't even gone to the Iowa MBB games when recruits have been there.

I know less about todays recruiting that anyone here, so let me ask this question. Are these rumors, regardless of if they are true or false, helping us with Iowa high school kids that we are recruiting?? I've heard that Chiz makes a big impression on both players and their coaches when he visits high schools. I'm hoping this little bit of intrigue at Iowa will help Chiz start dominating instate recruiting. Other than that, who coaches Iowa doesn't make much difference to me.

It really is surprising that there haven't been bigger names floating around. Part of it could be that it's been hidden from the public but with that big of a job, you would have expected more names to have been leaked. Now obviously there aren't any high profile coaches actively looking for jobs but I still would have expected other names by now with a little more flair.

I mentioned this in the thread about Dan McCarney, but why isn't anyone interested in Terry Bowden? He stated that he missed being on the sidelines and was looking to get back into coaching in 2008. I would think that he would be interested in Arkansas or Michigan, or LSU had the Miles to Mich thing worked out.

I think all of these rumors are killing Iowa recruiting. They already lost two of their big "studs" and there have been rumors that KF hasn't wanted to go out in public so he's avoided seeing some of the recruits around campus (i.e. at MBB games).

Iowa commits went from 12 just before the season ended to 10.

You decide which is hurting them more...

- W/L record this year
- Off-field issues
- KF rumors

One has to think this proves he's genuinely interested in the job. Not only is he not doing the school any favors - by default, he's not doing himself any favors by not squashing the rumors if he DOESN'T want to go.

The only other reason would be to hold iowa hostage for more money - he can' actually believe that'll happen, can he?

Stoopsie would be a huge hire for them. However, I'm not certain they would be willing to back enough full Brinks trucks up to his bank to make it happen...it would probably have to be a $4-5 million, long term, guaranteed contract for him to even consider it.

This would be great news for ISU and all other Big 12 teams!

I think Ferentz would be smart to leave. Pay cut, but maybe he'll have the opportunity to get out of his program which is struggling to keep players out of trouble and struggling with wins and losses.

It might not be that big of a pay cut anymore. The rumors on sports radio here yesterday were that money was a key issues in the Miles fiasco. It's now rumored that after that the AD has reevaluated his pay plan and is willing to up his ante.

I've posted before... but if anyone is interested here is a link for Detroit Sports Radio.

Of course he is interested in the Michigan job...it is a huge upgrade from the Iowa job! Having said that, I don't believe he is very high on their list (if he is on it at all) or something would have been done by now.

In other news... Coach Gene Chizik is rumored to be up for the USC job after Pete Caroll announced he's leaving for Iowa.

Agreed. It seems like they are stringing him along as a last resort if they can't get another big name, or possible NFL hire.

Give me one reason for a coach not to say "I'm staying at XXX"...if that is what he plans to do.

And spare me the "KF doesn't do that" spiel.

IMO, there is only one reason a coach keeps quiet when being seriously rumored for other jobs - he's fishing for a deal - either with that school or another.

Maybe KF in fact does not want to go to Michigan. However, there are a number of other jobs that are open and may come open before this thing is over. Him being mentioned along side the Michigan job is a nifty marketing item.

The guy may very well stay at Iowa, but his silence on the issue is saying a lot right now.

Agree and regardless of if he is here tomorrow or not, his silence is hurting the hawk football program in a way that only grows exponentially the longer he keeps his trap shut. Here's to hoping he keeps it up.....

Seems to me Les Miles was the budget Ford Focus model first choice for a coach, and Kirk was the Cadillac second choice. AD revisited the pay plan to get back into Kirk's cost of living range.

If the Captain blasted off to Michigan, So who would be left for Iowa to hire for their Superbowl team? Jim Strobe? Brian Kelly? Noprm Chow? Dan McC or Mr. Northern Illinois? Callahan?

Should be somebody really great for $3M a year. Maybe a Lane Kiffin.

From listening to people talk around here... it seems to me that Michigan thought they could get Miles at a discount. They thought since he played and coached here, and has said he is a 'Michigan Man' he would come no matter what. Didn't turn out that way.

Ugh oh! Just reported on the radio here that the contract Miles agreed to at LSU was supposed to be signed this week and now has been delayed until after the BCS Championship game.

This isn't over yet!
