RUMOR

Take it for what it's worth but I had an email this morning from somebody that works at the Detroit Free Press that stated the rumors he's hearing are that Ferentz has spoken to members of the Michigan search committee and that he is currently their number one choice.

I don't know if the contact between Kirk happened last week or is happening more recently and I obviously have no way of knowing if he would be extended the job but I thought I'd pass along the info anyways.

I just get a laugh out of the whole situation. I don't care too much who coaches Iowa - I think they're still going to struggle going forward with resurgent Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern teams. I just wanted to pass on the snippet of info, regardless of if it turns out to be true or not.

Kirk Ferentz is a good coach. But at Iowa your competiting with so many other teams for recruits. If he got a new offensive and defensive coordinator he could do pretty well there. You just got to run a pro style offense. Anyway most of the problems he is having at iowa (legal, recruiting) would be gone at michigan.

I think Ferentz would be smart to leave. Pay cut, but maybe he'll have the opportunity to get out of his program which is struggling to keep players out of trouble and struggling with wins and losses. Not to mention having a budget that is almost endless has gotta be nice. I just wonder how the Michigan fanbase will respond. Will they remember the guy who led Iowa to a couple good years or the guy who has been average if even that the last couple.

Kirk is a good coach I'll agree. But that HAS to be a step down for Michigan. Since they're Michigan...couldn't they get anyone they want? Kirk had 3 great years, but since he has completely underachieved.

So I guess one logical question is who would Iowa go after? I know they probably think a "little-known" coach from Oklahoma would drop everything at the opportunity but realistically who could they get?

I've said before, I think it's a "good" fit. Unlimited resources, tons of talent, etc.

I still think Kirk is a very good coach, I just think he forgot what made him a good coach the last couple years - blue collar teams. I have not seen that attitude from Iowa in a while.

If he gets back to that way of coaching (especially in the trenches), he can win almost anywhere.

I think it's way too premature to consider who Iowa would go after as their coach is still under contract as of right now.

Struggle? Iowa doesn't struggle. None of the losses this year were their fault. It's Iowa State's Superbowl, they got screwed by the refs in Wisconsin, Indiana was playing harder for their coach who died, they lost to Penn State solely because their coaches are too old, they lost to Purdue because they don't have a QB, then they lost to Western Michigan because they shouldn't even be playing a MAC team because its a lose-lose situation.

Everybody talks about a pay cut, but I'm not sure I agree that it's an issued. He's made more money than he'll ever need at Iowa. Michigan is the better overall job. Let's say he makes half of what he's making now. Wouldn't that be worth the cut? It's not like he's in dire financial staits.

Drop Iowa and take the job. Win big games, beat OSU, compete for the Big Ten title/BCS spot and money will take care of itself. It really shouldn't be an issue. It'll be there eventually.

Well a two-win team could get to the N.C. so they still have a chance at a good season next year:spinny::rolleyes:
