I actually do agree with the premise, the game has become schedule the four easiest cupcakes you can in non conference, and hope to win three other games. I understand the point Jon is making. If the hope is for a bowl game, neither Iowa or Iowa State gains from playing. But there is more to it than that.

I can't wait for the day that Jon Miller and Steve Dunce are once again irrevelant in the State of Iowa sporting world.

They become more ridiculous with every post I read about them.

If folks stop listening and talking about us, that day will come. Until then, we'll see you at 2pm tomorrow ;)

Isn't Florida International an airport? So are they playing the TSA from the airport or just the baggage handlers?

most probably wouldn't agree with this, but....

If I had a choice between the two...

3 mid-major non conf & iowa + sub .500 conference record + post season bowl game
or
4 high major bcs schools non conf & sub .500 conference record + no postseason

I would choose the 2nd option every year. We would probably be matched up with another mid-major and get our butts kicked in the post-season anyway. Make us earn it. If we get in then we can field a team we know will play a competitive game against a quality opponent.

Apparently you didn't read the second part of my post where I said "with every post I read about them". I don't listen to your show and stopped watching State of the Nations after the first season.

Now, if everyone else would follow suit we can move towards what I want.

I have not listened to Miller in sometime, granted I am working at the time.

I stopped watching State of the Nations when the to be unnamed ISU host spent his whole segment trying to advertise his businesses and radio show when he should have been talking about ISU football. I was then banned on unnamed ISU hosts' website for saying I felt embarrassed for him as he was not acting professional. I tried to watch State of the Nations one more time but the two hosts were dressed in Drake and UNI gear. I have gone out of my way to make sure I do not even turn the channel to that station when that show is on.

This problem could be solved for the whole Big 10 by adding two more conference games and having everyone play everyone else in the conference.

I think the best solution for the entire BCS mess is that the NCAA require all conferences to have 12 teams (I think when ND State is added that there will be 120 teams, therefore 10 conferences) wherein every team in the conference plays one another and you eliminate the conference championship games. Each school gets to play one non-conference game which will allow for rivalry games. At the end of the season, each conference champ is guaranteed a slot in a 16-team playoff with a committee picking the other 6 teams and seeding them. Therefore, every game still counts and you don't create a disincentive to schedule a good non-conference opponent.

The playoff games should be held in four regions and utilize the current longstanding bowl venues to play the games. The Rose, Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar get to continue to rotate hosting the championship game, with the Rose and Fiesta alternating hosting a semifinal and the Orange and Sugar rotate hosting the other semifinal (one venue per year would have to host a quarter final along with the Cotton Bowl, Cap One Bowl, and Holiday Bowl; first round games should be at a rotating group consisting of Independence Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Gator Bowl, Outback Bowl, Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl, Sun Bowl and Humanitarian Bowl - have to keep the smurf turf in the picture).

There needs to be a different bowl threshold or better yet, less bowls. Being eligible with winning only 50% of your games is just wrong. Many of these subprime bowls are very similar to going to the NIT.
Maybe everyone should go to a bowl, kind of like the Iowa High School basketball tournament.

I think the main problem is the number of bowls as you said, but also the 12 game schedule. Basically all the 5-6 teams scheduled one more patsy and got to be bowl eiligible.

I agree.. we should schedule as many cupcakes as we can fit in our schedule and drop the Iowa game. wins = Bowls = money = upgrades = state domination = regional domination = world domination

Here's an idea.. start a new thread about not watching state of the nations and you two can complain all you want to yourselves.

Old Martha er Martee could be rite for once..It sure worked for Kansas schedule a bunch of nobodies win eleven games...dont even play in the championship game and get an easy bcs bowl pick and laugh all the way to Miami Florida.

I'll bet Mizzou sure wishes it could have beaten OU because they got a crummy trip to dallas and a half empty cotton bowl.:biglaugh:

My sources are telling me that Barta is petitioning the IHSAA to get a couple 2A-3A High School teams to play them for 3 out of their 4 non conference games. No 4A teams because it would be their superbowl and it would be a no win situation for Iowa unless they are guaranteed the victory.

Unfortunately, he has already been turned down by the 8-man conference teams so he is a little depressed but hoping the IHSAA does the right thing.

I've heard he's down to the Greater Des Moines Catholic Football League.

The league was a little concerned at first about playing a D1 football team, being that they only play flag football.

Then the realized it was iowa, which is about the same thing...

Ever think that possibly they talk about this just to:

If you don't stir the pot a little in talk radio once in awhile you aren't going to get much debate. And he probably knows by saying this he's going to get folks like you all riled up and calling in or talking about it which is exactly what he wants you to do so he has a job.

He would be smart trying to get the Catholic Football league on the schedule. After all, if they are playing a bunch of good christian athletes, who put "showing grace on their opponent" ahead of winning, and the hawks were getting beat by the team, the coaches started to pout and the fans are doing their normal thing by booing the players and playcalling, that the CFL would show sympathy and let them win so everyone could leave Kinnick with a warm feeling inside.:wacko::wacko::twitcy:

I agree with Miller and *****. Why not schedule four bad teams and then you only have to win 3 in conference to go bowling (2 if your conference doesn't fill it's bowls up). KU did it, and they had a better season than ISU has ever had. I don't know that you can knock what they did. Now, when the foundation is built and success can be sustained, that's when you start improving the nonconf schedule.

I do agree that the NCAA should mandate schools play at least one BCS team in the nonconf. That would benefit everyone.
