Last time I checked we are 1-7 in the Big 12. I don't think we're in a position to turn down final four talent. We have to close the gap between ISU and the rest of the Big 12 and fast. I'm trusting Fred on this one.

Exactly. When you have an opportunity to land a talented guard who started in the Final Four, you take it when you are in our position, regardless if he has to sit out a year. And he fits in pretty well with our projected roster and needs in 2012.

It would be great if he didn't have to sit out a year, but I doubt we can pull that off if we couldn't even get White eligable.

We should evoke the J'Mison Morgan clause on the NCAA. Morgan got booted off the UCLA team last spring and the NCAA let him play for Baylor right away this year.

I am about done with this transfer thing. Burning a scholarship for a year so we can wait to get one year of play out of a guy just seems crazy at this point. Our team needs some reserves. the transfer situation can really be seen this year as we have no usable bench. I was hoping Fred was done doing this. We have our shot in the arm, and I would like to see future scholarships going to players who will be on scholarship for a few years and not have to wait to see the floor. I dream of having 13 eligible players competing in a game.

LOL.

Firstly, our team needs more legitimate Big 12 caliber starters...NOT more reserves.

Secondly, the vast majority of teams use a 7 to 10 man rotation in MBB...frankly, it is typical that half the team is there for game action (7 or 8 guys) and the other half is there so you can practice effectively and they can be developed for future years.

I love the fact that Hoiberg is trying to get the talent infusion we need to start winning again ASAP. This is MBB and your fortunes can change very quickly...thankfully Hoiberg understands this even though many in our fan base apparently do not.

My deepest hope is that at some point, in the not too distant future, we are able to be recruiting guys that are either one and done type guys to the NBA or guys that only stay 2, maybe 3, years...guys that can really play...guys the NBA wants.

Wow! I thought this was a long shot! If we end up landing him, and he behaves himself like Allen has been, what another great get for Coach Hoiberg. We'll still be very inexperienced in the backcourt in 2012-2013 and he'll fit in nicely as a proven experienced guard.

Geez, you would have thought transfer were all rotten, no talent hacks with the way this thread is going. We won't need him next year so if gives him a year to learn the system and be a big help on the practise squad. If Hoiberg looks at the entire situation - let's face it, he'll know more details about what happened and what he plans on happening (recruit new players, players that don't look like they will fit, etc.) then we ever will - then I am all for it.

I do love that people are freaking because we can't tie up a schollie for a year. We get, what, 13 schollies? When was the last time we needed/used all 13 for people actually contributing minutes? I don't recall a team using more than 11, so "gambling" (if you choose to call it that) on a talented upper class man for 1 year doesn't sound bad to me!

So I have no idea what the scholarship situation is like right now. We will only have 4 open next year, correct? As of right now, we have 4 signed for next year, correct? I'm assuming Lucious would have a scholarship, even though he wouldn't be eligible to play?

Assuming that is all true, I'm OK with dumping somebody to bring him in, but who would be that guy? Maybe someone with more knowledge can bring me up to speed as recruiting/scholarship situations are not my strong point.

Bye Bye Somebody.

P.S. He was not a starting guard on 2 final 4 teams. He only started 7 games in his college career.

Don't be confused by the stats, Korie is a very nice talent. He is one of the quicker guards in the NCAA. Makes a lot of sense to take him for 2012-2013. With Scott and Allen gone, he would fill a guard spot nicely. He and McGee could both play both guard spots. It gives the back-court some flexibility and allows Sledge/Odunsi/Cook more time to develop.

2012-2013
G-Luscious (Sr.)
G-McGee (Sr.)
G-Babb (Sr.)
F-Ejim (Jr.)
C-White (Jr.)

With Booker (Sr.) Godfrey (Jr.) Railey (Jr.) Palo (Jr.) Sledge (So.) Odunsi (So.) Cook (So.) and McKnight (Jr.) off the bench.

Who knows what happens with player attrition, but that squad would have some great speed/athleticism to play CFH's style.

Best post in this thread. Please read the above again and tell me why we wouldn't love to have Luscious?

+1 Mr. Blum.

I don't think CFH dumps anyone for KL. I think if CFH brings him in than it will tell us there is someone on the team who has expressed interest (privately) in transferring after the season.

Lucas is solid, I'm not sure why any Cyclone fan wouldn't welcome him with open arms, so long as the coaching staff isn't concerned with his behavior.

And like 4 of those games were NCAA tourney games. 4 more than anyone in a Cyclone uniform has had in years.

Breaking this down, if he does transfer it wouldn't be to back up McGee. So I'd guess that McGee would move to the 2 and Babb would switch back and forth between the 2 and 3. Giving Ejim and Cook some minutes at the 3 and depending on White returning, unknown minutes at the 4. If Lucious does transfer someone will have to go next year (maybe this is already a done deal) most likely from the front court. Of course it is possible that he'd pay his own way while he sits for a year.

So we're officially becoming the place misfits go for second chances??

I'm all for getting better talent, but I never thought CFH would be interested in doing it this way.

BUT, that said, hopefully they have learned from their mistakes and won't be a problem here.

You, apparently, are not aware of your ISU MBB history. We have a long line of guys that have been key contributors to our program that fall into the "misfit" and "second chance" categories you are bemoaning...

Elmer Robinson, Tom Schafer, Dedric Willoughby, Kelvin Cato, Kenny Pratt, Jamaal Tinsley...just off the top of my head.

You and all of your "do it the right way" buddies in the Cyclone fanbase need to come to grips with the fact that the game as played in the power conferences...which we happen to be in right now...is not about recruiting a bunch of kids that you hope to redshirt and have around for 5 years while they learn the system.

Jeesh!

Honestly I'm really surprised at this... I'm probably wrong, but I just don't see tying up a scholarship with Lucious for him to play one year when McGee and Sledge have a year in the system to be a good idea.

We've never seen these guys play, for all we know they could be the second coming of farnold degand and marcus brister.....

Take him in a heartbeat. He is a proven winner. Brings final 4 experience. Knows what it takes to get the job done. It's not like we play 13 players every game. We only need around 10 per year so that we can have a rotation. Great deal all around.
