Negativity is embarrassing

I've been a member of this board since October 2008. Since that time, what has happened in men's basketball to give an "atta boy"? Should I be giving out high fives for things we're supposed to be doing? Here's a high five for moderating.

I'm not talking about solely basketball.

I'm suggesting the same people who would rip the football team for losing to KSU for 50 posts, are nowhere to be found after a win against NU.

There are plenty of "fans" here - who have no other mission in life, but to whine about ISU sports. Never a +, always something to find fault about. Heck, they'll pick and comb over the wins - just to find that fault.

Why even bother? They never seem to "cheer" for ISU. So much so, I have to question if they aren't in fact trolls in disguise.

"Should you give high 5's for what you're supposed to be doing" - well, yes. Isn't that why you support a team (and for many, I used that term very, very loosely). And for those same people - we aren't ever allowed to lose, so I'm not sure when you'd ever pass out that high five in the first place.

Much to do about the complaining about the extreme negativity or blind love for Greg.

The real issue is we're into year 4 and have what looks to be the most talented/deep team in that 4 years - yet still can't seem to beat teams with a pulse.

Now you're just talking crazy. The tone around football was very postitive with the exception of the Iowa game ... and that has to be excused, them being the devil and all.

Rhoads is a freaking king right now and everybody is pumped about the Insight bowl.

I cheer my *** off every time ISU plays. Win or lose. I spend money on the ISU program, win or lose, every year. I wear my ISU gear everywhere, win or lose. I love ISU, no matter what, win or lose. I live and die on every loss.
Just because I don't start threads titled "Greg beat a DII team, Nice Job" doesn't mean I'm not a real "fan". I don't start threads "our basketball team sucks" either. I choose to comment on the ones I feel strongly about. Just because I don't fall in line with your perfect definition of a "fan" on here doesn't mean you are any better of one than the rest of us.

I didn't say overall tone, or the fan base as a whole.

I'm talking about a certain element (and growing one) that just finds fault regardless of what happens. It's gripe or MIA.

And no - not everyone is pumped. Overall - yes. Everyone - no.

You're the one who lined yourself up as such. I didn't call you out specifically in any way shape or form. Still haven't. I made a general statement - agreeing with the OP about certain people and their posting habits.

You could've just as easily looked at my post and said "that's not me, I'm not negative all the time".

But apparently you found reason to choose otherwise .....

So when you posted about the "realist" right after I used the term, I really shouldn't have taken that as me?
Come on, man. I have an Iowa State University education.

I "optimistically" predicted 3 wins for football ... so I was among the negative-nancy crowd in the beginning.

If there are people out there upset with 6-6 and the Insight Bowl they've lost all perspective.

Basketball is a whole nother animal. Things are spiraling out of control in a season that was supposed to have redemption written all over if for Greg. Not a lot of "bounce back" in that team after Northwestern ... in fact, none at all.

Color it however you want but the expectations were there when Craig came back. NCAA or bust ... maybe NIT or bust if you're a bet hedger. I'm sure Brackins didn't come back for 15 wins.

Well, my apologies then. I'm sure you're the only one who ever used such a term. In fact - the only post I read (outside the handful reported to the mod team) was the one immediately before mine.

Common theme under the Danny Mac firing - "realist" (Heck - I used it). Wayne ... "realist". Probably a dozen others have used that same language to justify why their point is more solid than the people who don't rip the team upside-down this season.

What would you rather I have said? I'll go edit it...

People who are complaining about basketball should really bite their tongues as we aren't even 10 games in.

Case in point the 2004-2005 team. It returned Stinson/Blalock/Homan and some good role players. We started out 0-5 in the big 12 and I gaurantee you this place would have been a trainwreck had CF been around. Besides the internet, the mood was pretty bad around campus towards ISU basketball as I was a student then. Here we have a great team with great talent not playing up to our potential.

BUT, the season was not over. They went on to win 7 games in a row including a win at #2 Kansas. After that streak, things went crazy. Everyone was all pumped for the tournament.

Long story short, the season is NOT OVER! It's just like trying to judge a book by reading only the first 3 chapters. Just sit and wait and cheer like hell!

That is totally not the issue here. Why don't you go post in the 20 other threads about year 4? The OP was trying to get people to lighten up and curb their hate for a little bit. A kind of "step away from the ledge" thread.

The haters have infected this board. They make it not fun, they are all over here whether it be in Politics or gaming and groups. But they feel the need to input their hate into every thread on here. Do you really want Monty posts non-stop in every thread? That's all we are getting. Would I like a good debate about year 4 and our problems and what we need to do like you brought up, yes. I liked reading the thread between you and KG after the NWestern loss. You guys were making good points and seemed to have a good perspective on the team. But now, you can't get past the hate filled meaninigless posts that everyone think they and their mothers are entitled too. I'm tired of reading this board and having people just whine and cry non-stop. They are even doing it even after great news when we make the insight bowl? It's a sad state of our fanbase when all they seem to be looking for is another reason to post that stupid picture of a fan getting kicked in the nuts. Their is no legitimate discussion anymore. Just people spouting off at the mouth

it should make you feel better than that this is the only Mens Basketball thread in the top 20 right now.

It seems the only people ******** right now are those that are ******** about the *******.

You don't need to edit anything.
You're telling me you wouldn't have taken it the same way?
You don't have to use sarcasm to defend it. "I'm sure you're the only one who ever used such a term..." come on.

May want to simmer down there, bud. Not really a question at this point, after the comments you're leaving for others. This is a freaking message board - settle down.
