Yes, Roy was the only coach logged into Skype, but he says he didn't know that, and none of the other coaches knew that Skype would be used. They thought HB would simply announce the school of his choice, or put on a hat.
Apparently, all six coaches were in the dark.

So he didn't really say yay or nay to anyone except Roy? Thats kind of disrespectful. Those programs took their time to recruit him and all they got was TV announcement yay/nay?

I thought I read on here that he called all of the coaches after the presser and that the only one that answered his call / returned his call was GM.

This is getting very old. It's the same people saying the same stuff over and over. Can we just stop? Some people feel jaded which is their right, some people still love HB which is their right as well. Don't see the point of the continued arguing or finger pointing, name calling etc. etc. I think it's time for everyone to just move on.

One thing I have notice about the GET OVER IT or I AM SO ASHAMED crowd . . . it is almost a religious position. They will be above and better than all of us angry sinners who are totally disgusted at how ISU got jobbed by the Barnes family. Even Gary Thompson left that debacle as fast as he could get out of that gym.

HB et al orchestrated this PR DISASTER. They are responsible for causing a LOT of hard feelings. But don't worry Barnes and mom will quickly move on once HB FINISHES with the Tarheels. And ISU will be a distant unpleasant memory.

Besides many of us have moved on . . . and will never pay much attention to Barnes in the future. He is on another wave length. He never was a Cyclone. He made us think he was but he wasn't.

In the meantime, all you do gooders need to back off and let the anger disipate . . you enablers need to reevaluate the role of honor, loyalty, and self sacrifice in our culture. HB MISSED a great opportunity to be a hero/ambassador for our communities and state. HE WILL NEVER get that opportunity again . . THAT is sad.

I will be one to say, Harrison Barnes even with his National Championship ring/s and multi million dollar contract will be poorer for what he failed to comprehend at the cuspice of his decision. That he could have become a legend within his own state . . a hero to many kids growing up here IN THIS STATE.

Don't worry though, BDR aka Back Door Roy will be there for the Barnes family . . How disgusting! Yes, I will move on and get over IT. But our communities, state, and universities deserve better than this.

Good luck in the future Harrison . . .CLAP, CLAP, CLAP

How often do you read this site? It is precisely the ISU fans that are building these recruits into something they are not.

Heck, even low level recruits (that, truth be told, should have been walkons) like Wes Eikmeier are built up to epic proportions by our fan base.

Well, actually I'm on this site quite a bit, and read many, many posts. And, no, I wouldn't necessarily say it's the fans who primarily build these players into something they are not. ISU fans aren't running the sites that rank the players, and most ISU fans aren't the Harrison Barnes groupies who I was referring to originally. The character of HB was built up by many who have only self serving interests in him.

You get a recruit like Barnes that is a legit talent and is from Ames and all we hear is how stellar of a person he is...great student, great kid (shovels snow for neighbors that are too old to do it themselves), humble, modest, grounded, yada, yada, yada. Heck, we even had a poster proffer a nickname for him at ISU as "Cardinal Jesus".

But all that changed on Friday when he decided to go to UNC. Now, overnight, the kid has become an egomaniac, a shameless self promoter, a traitor...yada, yada, yada.

True, fans are pisssed because they feel HB used ISU. I happen to agree with this.

As I said in my original post, this phenomenon is not unique to HB...this has happened before...Bates, Wes Johnson, Staten, etc.

I submit to you that HB (and the others listed above) is the same person today that he was when he woke up on Friday morning. He was never as humble and modest as many said before the decision and he is certainly not the cold, calculating "user" that many claim he is after his decision was rendered.

Maybe. Or maybe these young athletes change quite a bit after being influenced by people who really don't have said person's best interests at heart. You do remeber Wes J's brother?

Did you ever contemplate that HB did not want to be a hero / ambassador / legend in the state of Iowa? Rightly or wrongly, he made the decision he felt was in his best interests.

Do we still clap for the opponents as their starting lineup is introduced like we used to in Hilton? I always found that much classier than booing.

Am I reading this correctly? You actually believe that Cyclone fans had WJ's best interests at heart...moreso than his own brother? Wow.

Yes, it is and always will be 5 claps for each player as they're announced.

However there are instances where the students add a little something extra for certain players/teams

I'm just asking why people always bring up Skype specifically as a sore spot.

I just meant if Roy was the only one logged in, it is clear ISU had no shot. Why create such a circus and crush all the cyclone fans in attendance? He could have said ISU is out earlier in the week, month, or year and still had his big show. If anyone in the community wanted to go to see him choose between UNC and Duke and support him they could have.

Well it would mean they had no shot on Friday, but it wouldn't tell us anything else as far as when they were out of the running.

I am shocked you are not taking Mr. Barnes at his word. Did he not state he had made up his mind sometime on Wednesday (which would still give time to let at least the ISU coaches know they were out)?

Or did Mr. Barnes flip a coin before he walked in?

You misread my post, I'm saying that his decision was made by Friday, so Roy was the only one waiting. So even if we knew Roy was the only one on Skype that only tells us we weren't in the running on Friday, which is fairly obvious, doesn't tell us that we weren't in it on say Monday of that week.

From a public relations perspective he blew it.
From a national PR perspective, and from an Ames High PR perspective he "Blew it Up". The coverage was awesome, Ames High looked 1st class, and in reality he looked 1st class. Obviously most on this board disagree with this statement. But the reality is Barnes came out of that press conference looking like a well polished professional.

Bigguns, I would have to agree with you. Although it might have not ended with the result we wanted, I take nothing away from Harrison on his day. Yes, he "Blew it Up" on many levels.

Are you delusional?

He looked like a wannabe showboat. He Skyped Roy Williams dude. Skype.

Please go find whatever the hb40 fanclub site is and let us get this site get back to Cyclone Fanatic. I think hb has gotten enough attention from ISU already.

Delusional? No not at all. Had he Skyped McDermott you would love him right now and would be talking about what a fine job his mother had done raising him and how articulate he is. But because he invited the public and chose another school he is a sneaky, manipulative liar that used and embarrassed both ISU and it's fans. Should a guy marry the first girl he ever dates no matter what? Is it ok if it doesn't work out? You sound like the crazy scorned girlfriend who breaks out the ex's headlights. I choose to be the person who says hey good luck, no hard feelings, it's not like we were engaged, we were just dating. Good luck HB! Go Cyclones!!!

And that's exactly what HB wanted. This PC was all about marketing HB. And his mom's invite to the entire community was part of it. They wanted the big production. They wanted him to get the national press and PR. Their goal was to introduce the HB "brand" and if it was at the expense of ISU, so be it. They used ISU to further their goals. And I don't doubt that they used ISU interest to secure the ESPN game at Hilton...only to give HB more of his much desired pub.

I don't fault HB for choosing UNC....that was probably the right decision. But I'm not falling for the "I'll always be a Cyclone" crap. If that family had any love or respect for ISU, they'd have left them out of the running long ago. Or at the very least not invited the general public to that media circus. Do it in the library like every other recruit does. I hope HB and Shirley enjoy the time they have left in Ames...and then get the heck out of town.
