Or if you are an engineering student at Iowa state you can get it for free through the MSDNAA program...

Lets hope that this one doesn't fall on its face.

7 is great so far. I use it at work and have been happy with it. Tested the hell out of it.

Pro is free for MIS students. I have been running it since last week, no complaints so far.

Windows XP is an operating system.

Windows 7 is a new operating system.

Well I get this...but I'm talkin like Vista > 7 ? Whats new with 7? Why should I get 7 as opposed to keeping XP? If I do download it, will it erase programs/files on my computer?

My guess is that you should stick with XP. I use Vista and have no problems but honestly XP is my favorite OS ever. I don't believe you can upgrade from xp to 7 without a re-image, which means it will erase programs/files.

Yeah, but a reimage is good anyways once in awhile, even with XP.

From my perspective, 7 has all the good things about vista, and all the good things about XP, all in one, plus a few other nice enhancements. Very fast. Id recommend anyone with XP or Vista upgrade to it.
