I remember the ads for nude models in the Daily through the '80s--and also know what eventually became of the photographer.

$10 an hour was the going rate for nude models back in my day. Not only that, but all the illustrations got hung on the walls at the Design Building. That job takes some serious balls.

IIRC, this guy (private citizen) was paying $50 an hour. And the APD took away several file cabinets full of photos after he was murdered. But that's for another thread...

Any other former scholarship athletes want to chime in on where and how they got paid?

I know finding cash jobs were tough back in the day. I struggled my first year(1986).After that I worked the door regularly at Cy's Roost (3 years) and some at The Cave.
During the summers(1986-1991) I was allowed to work for the Ames School Dist. Mostly mowing and doing light maintainence in the various school buildings.

I know lots of scholarship guys were able to get jobs with the University.
Heard lots of stories and was just wondering if anyone wanted to tell us now that they were legit jobs. I know for a fact they were....just looking for someone to back it up.

2005-06 Admissions office: I was one of the people that called potential students. Liked it for a while but it got really boring fast.
2006- Kingland Systems "Intern" - Thought that would be a good job and good starter internship. It wasn't. I hated it.
2007- Central Stores: Fun during the summer, I didn't really have time to keep working there during the year.
2008- Intramural ref. That was fun other than reffing broomball which was fun to play, not fun to ref.

I worked in an afterschool program in an elementary school near the Towers, and later worked in the Rosedale Shelter through Youth and Shelter Services.

I worked with many of the resident teen deliquents in Ames from 1993-1995. Any of them you?

2004-2007: I worked in the communications building where I checked-in cameras and tested the A/V equipment in the auditoriums all over campus. Also in 2006-2007 I worked on the first floor in Hamilton Hall helping the journalism majors edit video and checked out cameras.

Since the Spring '08 semester I have worked for the Athletic Academic Services as an attendance monitor. Easiest job ever. Just check to see if the people we all talk about are in class. Going to do it again this semester.

With your mom
I did a stint at a KFC as a cook. It was not good. I have not set foot in one since(15 years).
But on a positive note, before I was weary of all the grease, I worked the close shift on Wednesdays and would cook more than was scheduled so there would be extra. Then I would take it to a friends dorm and we would have half the floor devouring the take.
