Does anyone really think he is even considering leaving for another job? Not a chance. He grew up in Ames, Loves Ames, Ames is a great place to raise kids, he loves Iowa State, both his parents and his wifes parents are living in Ames, he is coaching where he played, he is making a million dollars a year and will continue to make more and more every year, eventually he will be given a lifetime contract at Iowa State, and everyone loves him in Ames.

Why in the world would he go to UCLA or an NBA team where he is just another coach at either of those places?

Someday he may try his hand in the NBA, but he is ours for at least a few more years. He is pretty ambitious so it wouldn't surprise me to see him take that leap after he wins a championship or 2 here :p

Fred isn't leaving for a college program. He will be an NBA coach but not until his kids are graduated from High School.

This echos what I've heard from a source close to Fred. He said the only way he leaves before his kids graduate is if he gets screwed around with his contract.

I assume he wants to coach in the NBA someday but I would think it will be after he has accomplished something here to leave that legacy. However, having had to face his own mortality in a way most of us haven't; you never know what could be on his mind. Any of us could go at any time, but I am sure he is aware of that more than most.

IMO it would be tough for any team to lure him away regardless of salary. He now has a cushy gig here as long as he wants it, and tons of support with almost no criticism and forward program momentum. If it were me, my job satisfaction would be through the roof right now.

When any of us get nervous about the NBA contacting Fred about a job, we just need to watch the beginning of the press conference after today's game. There was about 15 seconds of silence as he tried to compose himself and find the words. Iowa State means as much or more to Fred than it does to any of us.

The only way I see him leaving is if the time comes when he has done so much here he needs a new challenge or for some reason he feels like he is hurting the program.

Hoiberg wants to build something here. Like all of us, he wants to see the program succeed, and I think it means enough to him that he won't leave until A) he has ISU challenging yearly for Big 12 title/Sweet 16/Elite 8, or B) he has it on the cusp of doing that and has a suitable handpicked replacement.

He's a very smart, very competitive man. If Fred didn't think he could build a perennial winner here, he wouldn't have taken on the challenge or he'd already be gone. With the fan base and home venue already gaining some national prominence, it would be such an un-Fred move to leave when things are just starting to pick up.

I am not worried about it.

I hope like hell he never leaves for another job but people who say never crack me up. The truth is that we don't know. If the Timberwolves were to offer $5 million per year for 5-6 years? With his heart condition, making sure his family is financially secure might be a factor.

I have a hard time seeing it but you never know.

Here nor there
Love how opponents propagate this, you can feel their fear of Fred making ISU a top program in CBB. Less than 3 years ago haters were harping doubt about the coaching a recruit would receive at ISU with Fred as coach. Now his coaching and pro-NBA style is so well thought of they are campaigning him as a target of several NBA teams.

All in all, having your coach be able to land several NBA job offers is instant cred to blue-chip recruits.

One way to secure him, is to pay him fairly. Currently he's not paid fairly, when you factor in tourney wins in years 2 & 3 after starting with 3 scholarship players. We were in a dark place when Gmac left, making this a tough rebuilding job.

The only thing this did was bump up Fred's salary for next year and he will deserve every penny.

Pollard needs to pay the man and keep Fred happy. I would love for him to retire here, but with his health can he coach for another 10-20yrs? He is here because well he wants to be here and we want him here I mean come on he is the MAYOR. Iowa State will get to the final four, win a championship and win multiple conference championships before its all said and done. Our style is what playmakers want to play for and play for a coach to prepare them for the NBA and Freds style does exactly that.
