Do we even know if TJ is a good coach? I mean he was a good recruiter (like Prohm) handled his business in a mid-major with another coaches players (Like Prohm). The only difference is he went to another mid major and did just ok.
I dont know why you all are in love with TJ. The only thing I can think of is that you believe he is an extension of Fred and will bring back the warm fuzzies of Hoiball. While it doesn't appear Steve is the solution, I dont know if you could really convice me TJ would have faired any better.
This is where I'm at. My question with TJ, how good of a coach is he? It's not like Prohm has been a terrible recruiter here. He's had his misses, like every other coach has. Also brought in some studs. TJ would be able to bring in talent, maybe a more focused midwest approach, but he has connections all over the country. And it would depend what assistants he hires.
Is TJ capable of establishing an identity on both ends, coaching to that, making good gameplans and in-game adjustments? I haven't seen enough of his teams/coaching to know if he is a better Xs & Os coach than Prohm. I sure hope he is. I would guess he has some Hoiberg principles on offense. I wouldn't automatically give the job to TJ without exploring some other candidates. Like others have mentioned, TJ had it pretty well at SDSU, now he's doing a rebuild at UNLV, so really hard to judge. I guess I don't think he's setting the world on fire at either place.
Prohm is a poor tactician of the game. And that's why I want him gone. Every opponent we face, I know we are going to get out-schemed and beat from in-game adjustments, special situations, etc. His offensive system is space, stand, watch the ball-screen. That only works when you have elite offensive players, and even talent sometimes doesn't make it work. He is willing to let the opponent dictate the style of game, which has killed our play in Hilton over the years. I'm thinking of slow-down games that he is perfectly fine playing against KSU, TCU, Texas, and mid-majors.
Other than the Jeff Beverly rebuilding year, he has had enough talent to compete. He doesn't use his personnel and bench effectively. I'm sure he thinks Xavier Foster is going to be a low-post, back to the basket guy. I'm skeptical Prohm will be able to develop him or be able to keep him on the team long enough....Or you could utilize each player's strengths. But that would mean adapting his "system", which he doesn't know how to do. Prohm is a nice guy, bad basketball coach.
