The NIL concept doesn’t bother me as much as the lack of transparency. Not talking about the We Will collective, per say, but the overall system. Since it’s perfectly legal now, I don’t understand the desire for collectives and players to be secretive about what they are providing the receiving.

Why throw out all your numbers as an easy list for other NIL's to beat?

Like Blum said, better to have a broad base support for a collective than rely on one person. Wonder how many lawsuits will be filed by players against Ruiz when it’s all said and done.

So happy to hear the Nick Weiler Babb talk. One of my personal favorites and underappreciated cyclones.

Definitely was fun to hear him discussed. In reference to him "deferring" too much, as CW said, the one three-game stretch where I remember him being willing to take over was the 17/18 team's fall tournament. In those games, he averaged 18/9/9 on 57%/42%/93% shooting with just 4 total turnovers. It wasn't great competition (Appalachian State, Tulsa, and Boise State), but it was still a fun glimpse into what an assertive, healthy NWB could be.

I don't feel individual player NIL compensation should be available to schools or general public.

But there should be ways that NCAA or Conferences to require student athletes to submit paperwork related to NIL compensation. Require business name, amounts, type of activities performed. Could NCAA/Conferences require athletes to submit tax documents and NIL contracts? Also the NCAA/Conferences could certify athlete agents or any entity that is getting a % of the NIL income.

The Athletic Director doesn't need to know individual athlete money. Maybe information aggregated by team and list of businesses providing NIL monies.

The sad reality, if NIL is fixed to eliminate "pay-for-play", the old fashion methods of funneling money under the table will come back. IMO a way to fix NIL is to allow top tier athletes to play professionally out of HS. We are moving toward that in hoops with the NBA changing its age requirement. But I saw a recent mock draft and 3 or 4 of the top 10 lottery picks either played for Overtime Elite or the G-League.
