Will Covid reduce or eliminate fans even more at our remaining home games.

We've been in some tiny schools and gyms for basketball tournaments, even with 2 fans per athlete with how many teams are often there it would get crowded fast.
I guess I'm still thinking football that's a good point

Our Saturday tourney was cancelled last night. I don't think there will be much youth BB this winter outside of middle school ball or the like.

Our town still doing elementary parks and rec basketball. They communicated the requirements. People will ignore it. No one will enforce it. Just like any other attempted restriction in rural Iowa.

I'll tell you right now if it is brutally cold on 12/5 I probably won't go to the game regardless and I am guessing that many others probably won't either. Will be interesting to see what happens in a week though when they are ready to issue tickets for the KSU game if any new restrictions get put in place that may limit or eliminate fans at the game.

I agree with what others have said in this thread, for the most part ISU fans have done a great job with following the protocols and keeping their masks on while distancing. I felt plenty safe attending the games I have so far. There were a few people pushing it a bit with the tailgating and not wearing masks outside of JTS last week and I think that had a lot to do with the nice weather but I didn't see anything blatantly bad. When you watch other games on TV and they show the crowds I haven't seen nearly the same distancing and mask protocols being followed that we have done well with at ISU.

No but Texas had.

30million vs 3million and you think Iowa having 50% of the cases Texas does makes Iowa look “good”?

Lets make it a little more fair with Dallas County TX vs the whole state of Iowa. 900 square miles vs 56,000 square miles and about 3mil in population each. You’d think with the population density that Dallas would have worse results right? Wrong

Dallas County had 1200 cases today. Iowa? 4400. How about since the beginning? Iowa is up to 160k vs 110k total cases. 1300 deaths vs 1800 deaths.

Pick whatever stat you want. Even a county in a state Like Texas that has had an awful response. Iowa is doing worse than the 9th most populous county in the country. That’s sad. Dallas County being that bad is also sad. This whole thing is sad.

But the majority of Iowans seem to scoff at the notion that this is anything serious, go about their day as normal, will host tons of family get togethers, have football games with 15k people and then wonder “what went wrong?”.

From the way I understood it as long as ISU keeps their existing protocols in place they should be good.

Either way i think we should just be glad if we can even play the games.

I've been pleasantly surprised with how well it has gone for us so far. From what i've seen on TV our fans in attendance are handling things better than just about any other fanbase in the country, and the team seems to have been doing a good job keeping up its bubble so far as well. Hopefully they can keep that going, though that will get more difficult the worse the overall numbers get.

I take it you deal with hundreds and thousands of iowsns on a daily and weekly basis? And you’ll be the only person who is bragging about the efforts of Texas that I know of

Also, the stat I want is deaths per 1 million. Let’s talk about that I notice you didn’t mention that one

He's not bragging about Texas. Texas has done poorly. He's pointing out that Iowa has somehow managed to be worse.

Dallas County is at 500 deaths per million and Iowa is at 590.

I'm not bragging about a single place in America about COVID response. We're all terrible but it's insane how some of the least dense states like Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota etc are doing so damn awful at this and then want to have events with 15k people.

I did see on TV that 4 people were ejected from the stadium for no masks, there were a handful of warnings for that, and there were some warnings (I think) for tailgate violations. I think people are playing the odds that a) what they do doesn't matter and/or b) they won't be caught. Neither of which is helpful for the rest of us.

I've been to every game. Other than walking in and out, I don't feel like I'm really around more than about 10 people.
Yes the big scary number is attendance of 15,000, but sitting in your seat, there are not many people in front or behind us and no one else is close to us in our row.

The ability to avoid exposure is much easier than most people probably think.

Seating has been intentionally designated to keep ticket holder groups together and separated from other groups. And if you come a little early and leave a little late, you will have plenty of space there too.

I've been to games at TCU, Kansas, NIU, and Iowa State. In each place, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to avoid exposure to the virus.

I was talking whole states. I see you want to use a portion of Texas which apparently is better than the rest versus the whole state of Iowa. And if you really think about what the major differences are between MetropolitanArea and a small sparsely population like Iowa it would make a little more sense probably

Our county public health department posted the Governor’s proclamation on Facebook. Immediately attacked for “making it up” since this wasn’t in the local newspaper that comes out twice a week.

Already a bunch of people vowing to blow it off.

We kept our football tickets, no way are my seats separated 6 feet apart from others, maybe on two sides. Have folks right in front and 1 seat in between us to the south

We would have more room if we were in our normal seats. It makes no sense.

I see the positivity rate in NYC has skyrocketed to 2.31% as they now ponder required actions.

For the ISU football games, the hardest part for contact tracing would be knowing who you say by. I would say few fans are in their normal seats and we don’t know the people around us.

I think Notre Dame is one heck of a petri dish after Saturday night.
