Why is Conditt not getting more minutes?

Remember pre-season and early season when everyone was stating that Conditt should redshirt . . . . . good times. He has exceeded expectations (not to Halliburton extent but still better than expected) and thus everyone now clamors for more PT. I will leave it to coach, he seems to know what he is doing.

Remember like every game where people think NWB should transfer and then one of the conference's highly regarded coaches (Beard) calls him one of his favorite conference players?

I don't think a lot of people realize the player minutes is a zero sum game. In other words, the only way Conditt gets more minutes is for another player to get less. And we have a lot of good players.

Flip the question on it's head: what ISU player deserves to play fewer minutes?

Against Ok St, KU, and Ole Miss there were opportunities to play Conditt more than four total minutes, if he was healthy. His dad said on Twitter that he wasn’t sick, but maybe he wasn’t correct.

There are really people who don’t know this?

There are also folks who hear "this guy should get minutes" and immediately turn it into 15-20min/game argument.

To answer your question, coach can "steal" 30-90 sec from any/all of his top 7 guys in order to get another player some minutes. You might do that just to help develop and provide experience for the kid. Or you might do it as a preventative reason to give your top 7 a physical break, mental break, limit foul trouble, situational offense/defense, etc.

Obviously Prohm is going to play who he trusts and earns it in practice. Sometimes I think he plays guys for too long extended minutes, which is often when lapses occur. I think a lot of coaches want to try to develop their bench, but few can ever find the perfect game situations to do it. If they go down swinging, they want it to be with their best players.

It can be a fine line. How do you win, while keeping your bench engaged and happy? Can you win while giving your bench game reps? Are you giving those guys enough reps to even show what they can do?

I'm just glad that Conditt can give quality minutes when needed. He had great games against Tech and Kstate. His only chance to get on the floor though is if Lard or Jacobson get in foul trouble and they need to rotate another big in for a few minutes. That's why it is suprising that he didn't get in against Kansas. Could have used his rim protection.

This isn’t trying out 10-12.
It’s 8-9 and that’s a significant difference, particularly when #7 has proven to be extremely foul prone.

For a team that many say prioritizes small ball and positionless basketball at the 1-4, it’s surprising that the healthy Talley we saw last year doesn’t have a role this year, particularly given the struggles of a couple of the guys in the rotation. Given the suspension of Talley and the recruiting accolades of his competition, there’s likely a non-basketball component to it.

It’s not a huge deal, but there were opportunities to get bench guys more minutes. It’s a long play that some coaches don’t recognize or utilize.

Conditt is a true freshman half-way through his first season. My guess is Conditt understands the long game and has embraced the team concept.

We're a top 20 team playing for a conference championship. I think we're doing OK regardless of what some say on this board.

This thread is the problem with discussions on here. “Conditt should play more” does not mean someone thinks he should be playing a ton of minutes. We needed another big against Kansas with Lard fouling out and Jacobson not being able to do much defensively. That is a pretty much indisputable fact. Was Conditt actually sick who knows. Maybe he helps there maybe he doesn’t. It is a fair critique of the coaching this year to ask why we seem to pretend certain players are ineligible.

How can it be a fair critique when it's all conjecture? If he was indeed sick than it is actually an unfair critique.

Funny how people easily see the distribution of minutes as positive-sum and an economic system as zero-sum when the reality of the two is quite the opposite, eh?

Answer to your question -- nobody. Nobody outside of our top seven has made an undeniable case they deserve anything more than the mop-up minutes they are getting.

Because the poster you quoted is anti
Prohm. It’s been tough the last couple days after waxing ol miss, they have to find something to complain about that could be the coaches fault.

It’s like hawk Jessie, anti prohm as the day is long. Makes **** up to hold prohm to a standard that doesn’t exist.

I remember the famous Johnny exchange with Valavano and vitale. He started the diatribe by saying he wanted a job like they had, just say whatever they want, never go to practice. That’s a hell of job he said.

Fran Fraschilla, who everybody loves here, goes to practices (hell off season workouts), goes out of his way to sing prohms praises, and he does not do that for every coach. But cf people know he’s holding a freshman post, and and two bench players down.
