Not to mention the dude never even set foot in any part of what is now the United States. Except for maybe Puerto Rico? I'm not sure about that one.

I celebrate Leif Erikson day on October 9th. :jimlad:

Don't we all? My family recreates a Viking longboat out of cardboard boxes & then we all march around our neighborhood in our handiwork. My children love me.

I don't know, but I need to get a job working for the Fed Gov't, so I can start getting all these days off work. I never even realized it was any sort of holiday today til I saw this post.

I drove by the lake today, and I didn't see any lazy government workers honoring Columbus by boating today.

Federal employees get maybe one more holiday than most companies. They don't get the Friday after Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve, so that cancels out Columbus Day and Veterans Day.

I know I had a great time on MLK day and Washington's birthday. Whoohoo. Gotta love those days. Spent working.

2009 Federal Holidays

My private company gets MLK off. I have worked both private and gov't and there is an extra holiday with the gov't, but only one. I also got less vacation with the gov't.

No you need to get a job with the US State Department working in an Embassy since they observe the US Federal Holidays PLUS the local holidays.

Federal workers who happen to be at work on the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve (practically none of them) end up getting half the day off anyway when the memo comes out saying they can leave early.
