This thread reminds me of my mother-in-law.

She tries to be manipulative and controlling of others around her.

But she's so obvious about it. It is like a steamroller slowly coming for you -- you can see it a mile away, and probably hear it even before that.

So the attempt never really works and, indeed, eventually comes off comical.
