At the same time the wife has a million dollar a year paycheck to worry about. With her son it's one loss and on to the next game. So This is one case she might want her hubby to stomp the panthers. She can root for her son to play a good game. Just not good enough to ruin her way of life.

One thing I've learned in my illustrious career as a sports fan, it really doesn't matter who you cheer for. I've cheered awfully hard over the years for the Cyclones, Cubs and Eagles, and that really hasn't gotten me far. Furthermore, I've cheered awful hard against other teams, and that hasn't worked well very often, either. Long story short, I'm sure she'll be happy with either outcome, no matter who she actually cheers for, as long as nobody gets hurt (or fired) in the process...

If that is the case I wish we would have recruited him to be a preferred walk-on.

From what I've heard, it was a subject of much debate in their household. The positive would have been the joy of spending a lot more time together. The negative would have been possible concerns of him taking playing time because he's Mac's son among players and/or fans.

If he was an all-world stud or just not very good, it would have made the decision much easier to come to ISU. But he would probably be somewhere between our 5th and 9th best player on the team, that would make it tough.

I would have loved to have him. However, after looking at what's happened at CU in football and how much unfair stuff Cody Hawkins has had to deal with, I can understand Greg and Teresa's concerns. In the end, it was Doug's decsion. Maybe he decided to go there for himself, maybe for his dad. I don't know. But whatever the reason he probably made the best decision.

If Gmac doesn't get into the Tournament at the end of the year, I'm not sure his job would be safe for 4 yrs of Doug's collegiate bball career if he did go to ISU. I don't think I'd want to play for the coach that replaced dad. (Not saying I think that Greg won't make the tournament - I expect him to) Could Dough have taken that into consideration?

I think itll be more awkward playing against dad the next four years itll be interesting that could make for a good ESPN story or something

Doug could have had a scholarship.

Keep in mind Doug has been a Panther Fan his whole life -- through and through -- and even though he has "cheered" for his dad now, he does bleed purple.

This will certainly add to the rivalry over the next several years.

I just hope Greg doesn't hold anything back. Until last year it seemed like Mac really hated having to play UNI and Jake. Almost to the point it was a negative distraction, and the on-court product suffered. Coaching against your son has to be about as much fun as coaching him.

I'm pretty sure we did. Greg seemed to be in a tough spot with Doug. Obviously, I think the kid would have been a pretty good player at Iowa State. But I think it would have taken him longer and he wouldn't have been as high profile. At UNI he can contribute sooner at UNI and probably will end up a more high profile player with them. Doug had to choose whether he wanted to play for his dad or have a better basketball career. Greg probably knew that he had an opportunity to get a kid who would have an influence on his program eventually, but he also knew that his son's basketball career would be better at UNI.

I think that having his dad's friend as the coach for UNI will help Doug with the rivalry. I'm sure that having Jacobsen there helped Doug pick the Panthers and I'm sure that he will help Doug handle the ISU game as well.

As far as who Doug should root for, I think it's pretty clear cut that he should be cheering for UNI in this one.

Yeah, I think Ben J. is so close to the McD's, he's pretty much an uncle to Doug.
