I know but when two brothers transfer from Iowa City West and their father gets another players dad a job in Iowa City so he would live down there and play for them...all you can do is speculate

As long as there wasn't any coach or school employee involved in this, I don't see how this is recruiting nor do I care. Iowa City High will be good at wrestling whether a couple kids transfer or not.

I know that Lewis Central wrestling about 5-6 years ago had a few people all the sudden start attending LC.

I always wondered about Des Moines Christian. They were horrible at most sports and then all the sudden were state qualifiers. Granted they haven't been a school for long but its just interesting.

Cedar Rapids Washington Swimming. I believe they're up to 27 state championships dating back to 1961 (26 coming in the first 36 years). I also read recently that they just won their 46th straight district title. I understand that swimming is not a very high-profile sport, but I doubt any other school in any other sport has put up championship numbers like this.

I have thought for a long time that there should be a parochial class added to even things out. I agree with some of the other posters about possible recruiting of athletes going on under the guise of academics. Just a quick look at the state tourney fields for both girls and boys makes one wonder is such schools are on a level playing field with the others in their respective classes.

On a side note, I was at Vets when Keota snapped Palmer's 103 gm winning streak.

IC City High.....

10 years ago there were 37 state championship banners hanging on the wall in the City High gym but I haven't recounted recently.

My son-in-law was on a City High team that won 3 State Track championships and 2 State Football championships. My daughter was on teams that won a Volleyball championship and two State Track championships.

Winning both the Boys and Girls State Basketball Championship last year has to impress someone.

Colo-NESCO BB (B&G) was the team to beat in the late 80's. Dejong was their girls coach and took them to state quite a few times I believe. He then took his show to Ankeny and was successfull there. Might want to talk about coaches that are dynasties as well as the schools.

If you want Dynastys team wise is one thing.... If you want great Coaches in the NATION who happen to reside in Iowa thats another. Larry Neidermeyer at Cedar Rapids Jefferson has won over 1000 games as a softball coach and around 900 as a Basketball coach. You want numbers you got them. You want influence on young peoples lives you got that too. You want Coaches that have bridged the Gap between "Old SChool" and todays tender don't hurt my feelings student athletes.... Larrys done that. Talk about a Dynasty and a machine.... and to think I live one block from their softball diamond and can't wait for it to warm up......

I think we are in the middle of two in wrestling with Don Bosco and Waverly Shell Rock (Is there another town in nation that can boast two great wrestling programs in WSR and Wartburg?)

I could be wrong, but didn't Harlen win football, boys bb, and baseball all in the same year and either did or come really close to going undefeated in all of them?

Girls Swimming- Valley
Volleyball- Western Christian Hull
Girls BB- Ankeny (I think by response on the board this one is obvious), Dowling with the Hansens coaching.

Football- Valley, Harlen
Track- City High

Just a few off the top of my head.

I want to talk about this on my radio show this week..

What teams do you think are the greatest in Iowa HS history? Boys and girls.

Some examples along the lines of what i am looking for.

Palmeroy-Palmer in boys hoops
Harlan in HS football
Don Bosco of Gilbertville in wrestling

Also, please post why you think they deserve mention...

I come to you because you are the folks that are from the small towns, the schools that produced these dynasties, and are more familiar with the specifics and nuances of these locations than any one person can be. I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Jon, some other ideas on a fun show (maybe during the dog days of summer):

You could do a 16 team tournament of best fight songs and have callers vote.

You could do rank the most successful pro careers out of iowa natives.

I do remember that in the '90s Davenport North was dominant in volleyball and Pleasant Valley was dominant in wrestling, at least in this part of the state. Nowadays, however, just about every sport in eastern Iowa is dominated by Bettendorf.

I wouldn't really call it a dynasty, but the young men who won the Senior League World Series in 2005 were a bunch of special kids. Majority of them played together since they were 7. They also went to the Junior League World Series (where they finished 6th) and was one game away from the Little League World Series. These kids went on to have on very successful high school careers, winning a state title at Urbandale, and there was even a teammate that was on the 'ever so special' 40-0 Johnston team last summer. Not a dynasty, but a bunch of kids that loved playing together and knew the game in and out.

Not to get off subject, but I think its a travesty that the Iowa Hall of Pride would not allow the accomplishment of winning the Senior League World Series into its facility. The reason behind not allowing the accomplishment in was that fact that it was not sanctioned by the NFHS!?! Well, was Zach or Shawn Johnson sanctioned? I know they are two different levels of media perspective, but come on. These fine young men played teams from Russia, Guam, Panama, and the other powerhouses of the US.
Thanks for reading my rant.

Lansing Kee High in Baseball

Waverly Shell-Rock in wrestling is starting to become a dynasty.

The rest I can think of have already been mentioned.

Osage wrestling has been very solid over the years. When Sports Illustrated (i think it was them) did an article about the State Wrestling tournament, they focused a lot on Osage.
