Not exactly sure.
I looked it up in the NCAA rules. You would be incorrect.

The only thing specifically stated is that “above” the bars is not reviewable. Beyond that is a referee judgment call as to whether the ball would have gone inside or out. There is nothing else about “directly above”—except in the NFL.

Apparently those TV announcers you’re citing confused the NFL and NCAA rules.

There is also no rule in college on how tall the bars can or must be—also unlike the NFL.

What part of the " If any part is not considered fully inside the posts, it is a miss." is confusing. The bars are considered to out of bounds, so technically if it hits a post at all, even if it bounces in, it should be called no-good. It seems pretty cut and dried.

One of the most underrated screw jobs in ISU history occurred in the 2005 Missouri game. The game was in Columbia and not televised, so almost no one saw this play. I happened to be in Columbia that day.

After spotting Mizzou a 2 TD lead, we had come storming back to take a 10 point lead in the middle of the 4th quarter. We had just knocked Brad Smith out of the game, and it appeared that the route was on.

Unknown freshman back up Chase Daniels walks in and takes Mizzou downfield to cut the lead to 7. We proceed to run the ball 3 times and punt. He's leading Mizzou back up the field for the game winning when Steve Paris jumps an out route and rips the ball away from a Mizzou WR and streaks into the end zone for what should have been a 14 point lead (PAT assumed) with 1:30 or so to go.

Refs rule this play was a catch, and that the receiver was down by contact. Paris and the receiver made contact on the ball simultaneously, and Paris had clearly come up with it, and the whistle hadn't blown. Mizzou retains the ball and scores the game tying TD with about 10 second left. Culbertson misses a chip shot on our first OT possession and Mizzou hits their FG to win.

I've been pissed about this play forever.

I was at that game too, as soon as Brad Smith left loved our chances then the legend of Chase Daniel was born. I don't recall the play you referred to but after how that game started we were lucky to even be in a position to win the game. And I know some here love Shaggy but that guy missed more clutch kicks that could have propelled the program into bigger games so I'm sorry to say I was never a big fan of Shaggy because other than the FG game against Iowa where he basically won that game for us he choked in a lot of other big games over his career including 2 that could have put us in the big 12 championship game.

I voted for Seneca's play against FSU. If we had instant replay back then I'm guessing they probably would have ruled him in for the TD but it's ISU so you can't ever be certain either. We pissed that season down the drain too losing 7 of our last 8 games of the season including the bowl game on the blue turf.

Maybe I'm remembering the exact details wrong, but I know we came up with the ball and returned it for a score on Mizzou's game tying drive and it was waved off. I'm 90% sure it was Steve Paris too.

Not true. It doesn't give a maximum but clearly states that they must extend to at least 30 feet above the ground.

Goals
ARTICLE 5. a. Each goal shall consist of two white or yellow uprights extending at least 30 feet above the ground with a connecting white or yellow horizontal crossbar, the top of which is 10 feet above the ground.

That bowl was horrible: 4 players suspended/ineligible due to grades, players gassed after exhausting season, I think Bronco players deliberately targetting Wallace’s knee and knocked him off the game and Dan Hawkins ran up the score with 0:58 left

Misery was also the team that was driving on ISU as time was expiring. They finally got in field goal range but there were only a few seconds on the clock and it was running. So a player went down with an "injury" well after the play to stop the clock and get the field goal unit on the field. They kicked the game winning FG and the player who went down was mobbed in celebration as much as the kicker was.

It's not like Tony Yelk was an accurate kicker either. Finished his ISU career 13 of 28 and also missed 3 XP attempts for a career FG% of just 46.4%. Kid had a big leg but you never knew where the ball would go. Take it for what it is but I went to that bowl game and one of the girls in our group knew someone on the cheer squad or dance time at the time who we met up with at the pep rally. She told us before then she wasn't sure if Yelk was going to get to play because he apparently got caught in someone else's room after curfew the night before but regardless we all know what happened in the end which was a typical ISU ending and nut kick as usual.

I always gave Yelk some slack. He was recruited as a punter but in typical Mac fashion he really didn't have a kicker that was any good. It turned out our punter was a better kicker than anyone he recruited to kick.

Assume you are referring to Carl Gomez right? Loved that guy, had him in a class my freshman year and he was quite a character.

I was right there by the orange pylon and he was in. The Cyclone fans waited on that same side for Bowden to walk back to the locker room. He was by himself and we booed the hell out of him. Then after a moment of booing sunk in he pointed at us and gave us a fist pump.

You are bringing back a horrible memory that I had forgotten about. Of the games I have listened to on the radio, this play and the debacle in manhattan with the picked up flags are the two most pissed off moments by John and Eric that I have ever heard.

It was insane in that time frame how many Big 12 games still had no TV.

All the group of 5 conferences have better TV coverage now than the Big 12 did just 15 years ago.

We probably end up going to a bowl game that year if we get that win. We lost the next week in a close game against Tech and that's when the wheels just fell off before bouncing back a little at the end of the year.

That's the kind of game that can flip a season the other direction.
The wheels fell off in 2013 when we started the season. That team was never a bowl team.

There was a FB game down in Waco that John got pretty pissed off during. The details aren’t coming to me but I’m certain someone will remember. I think it was the offsides deal.

I vote for this year's future screw job.

The screwing we receive this year will cost us the Big 12 title. It will be #1 forever.

There were two of the worst calls I have seen 3 plays apart. The one where KK slid to a stop and a KSU player came in and hit him. It wasn't like he took his head off, but his head clearly snapped back in the replay. Just no excuse for picking that up. ISU has already gotten a couple penalties this year for falling into a QB. Then the mugging of Lazard. Even after that KSU got away with 4 holds and a guy being 5 yards offside in the final drive. That crew should never ref again, but I know they are still out there.

Easy choice. Toledo's amazing loss to Western Michigan last night. I went to bed wanting to fight someone, anyone!
