"The report concluded that Drew demonstrated a "failure to monitor" of the activities of two of his assistant coaches and that there also was an overall "failure to monitor" by the institution, which found 405 additional impermissible calls and text messages from nine different sports, ranging from football to the equestrian program, from January-July 2011, during its investigation."

Let's all take a minute to let this soak in.

This could not have possibly come at a worse time for Baylor Equestrian.

The NCAA enforcement staff labeled the improprieties as "major violations," mainly because of the frequency with which they occurred.

The probe also determined that former men's assistant Mark Morefield committed a major violation when he attempted to influence two AAU coaches to furnish the NCAA with false and misleading information regarding a series of text messages.

NCAA evidently has obtained a photo of Scott Drew trying to "influence" AAU coaches.

Welp, this sucks.

I have defended Drew on this site a few times, so I am here to take my lumps if anyone wants to dish.

That said, if this is all that came out of a 29 month investigation, the NCAA really didn't have too much. I doubt most, if any programs, wouldn't turn up a few impermissible calls and texts over a four year period. The fact that we had so many is pretty concerning though.

On the other said, I have baseless claimed that Baylor is cheating. Now I have a base!

I remember starting a thread like this after ISU lost to Baylor in Waco and got blasted for it. Since then, there have been like 2 posts and this coming out. I am just saying yes, you are in Texas, but no tradition, Waco and a baptist school. How do you dominate college sports like this out of seemingly nowhere?

A few? This averages out to almost a phone call a day. That is not a few. That's systemic.

And on top of that, there's this little tidbit...

"The probe also determined that former men's assistant Mark Morefield committed a major violation when he attempted to influence two AAU coaches to furnish the NCAA with false and misleading information regarding a series of text messages. Morefield resigned in July 2011."

But yeah, a few phone calls....

The worst part about this for Baylor is that these violations (for MBB) occurred during 2010 when they were already on probation. They could be in deep **** here.

The problem for the NCAA is, their investigations, unlike those of police\courts, dont have the same strength. If a booster lies, for instance, they cant charge them with perjury. Look at the cam newton situation, for example...

So often its a 'where there's smoke there's probably fire', at least in the court of public opinion. There's been a lot of smoke around baylor for quite awhile. Now we're seeing some low-level flames, which is even more than just smoke..

Except this is the NCAA we're talking about.

Except this is Baylor we're talking about here. Baylor isn't Kentucky or Kansas or Ohio State. They're Iowa State or Kansas State.

The NCAA will come down hard as they can on them (I wouldn't be surprised to see a show-cause restriction put on Drew) just to have something to point to and say "see! We're fighting corruption and cheating! Our existence continues to be justified! Preserve Amateurism!"
