It's kitty corner. Get out of here with that wampus ********.
I've always said "caddy corner", but maybe that's me misunderstanding people saying it growing up and it just stuck

Yeah, I don't think that Scotcharoos made it across the Missouri River. I've been doing everything I can to introduce them to the Pacific Northwest.
And a close relative of that: "Jeat yet?"
I think caddy corner is different.I've always said "caddy corner", but maybe that's me misunderstanding people saying it growing up and it just stuck
Pop. (Already brought up, where I came from it's soda.)
Plastic or Paper "sack" is another big one. Everybody gives me a look when I say that outside of Iowa
Believe the 'tavern' originated at the stockyards in Sioux City many moons ago. Guy whipped up something quick that could be put on buns & feed a lot of patrons. Key ingredient is Worcestershire sauce. Not all homemade sloppy joes recipes have this ingredient but up in NW Iowa the name stuck.Ooooh, "tavern" is an excellent example. It took me until a few years in college before I made the transition to "sloppy joe."
Even so, mentally, I think a tavern tastes better than a sloppy joe. Probably because I liked the way my mom made it.
Do other states say warsh instead of wash?
I do this all the time. Didn't even realize it until you posted this. This is midwestern I think, but when you accidentally bump into somebody and say "ope".
Yeah, I'm not sure I've ever heard it in Iowa. What parts of the state say it?People in Missouri do
I saw a meme on facebook about it and was the same, never realized it until I read that. Now, everytime I catch myself saying it I laugh a little to myself.I do this all the time. Didn't even realize it until you posted this.
this spot on. My parents still refer to a field they have as "tillies field" I can't remember when she died but it was a long time ago.My favorite is when your talking about a farm and it's nicknamed donnies 40 or the old Jensen place - the guy it's named after died 30 years ago
I do too, but I might say "opes" (pronounced "oops, right?)I do this all the time. Didn't even realize it until you posted this.
I think Des Moines does, because I've heard it, but I don't know what other parts.Never heard this. What part of IA is this from?
