we can get a no player bashing rule on this site. It seems very appropriate at this point at Cyclonefanatic. I am a member of some other forums (MMA) and they don't allow fighter bashing. Yet on this site we see guys killing our players on an open forum. I don't mind killing the coaches. They get paid with our money. However it's a little crappy to kill our players that are here to represent our school. Anyone else down with a no player bashing rule?

Pretty low - but I agree.

I think it's fair game to say a kid had a good game/bad game/screwed up on this or that (see LJ's PF against UNLV).

But this garbage of of calling he or she a "bust" or "overrated" is just a tad much. When as stated so well earlier by jbhtexas - it's pretty much the members of this board who elevated these kids to the point where they can be thought of as a "bust".

I'm all for it......I just think its sad that we even have to consider it. After reading some of the posts on Lucca and Oliver the last several days, I'm actually a little less proud to be a Cyclone.

I think this could be up for discussion... as long as it is constructive criticisms versus... he sucks? so and so is plain horrible. bench that lazy SOB.

i will report it and see what the ideas are amongst the mods.

I just think some of these people are off there rockers. It's actually embarrasing. People building up recruits is basically guys just getting excited about players coming to play for our team. Nothing more than that. Then if they are not as good you have the negative guys come in and kill them. I am just sick of it.

Impossible. The interpretation of what is offensive and what isn't varies from one person to the next. Unfortunately you have to let individual opinions fly or else this site will quickly go bye bye.

I don't like it any more than the next person, but you can't big brother it. The site loses credibility if you do IMO.

Exactly. You do this, then it will be coaches. Because there's plenty of people on here who think we shouldn't discuss coaches either. And the second you bring up something on the side against them - you're bashing them.

Question - how would such a rule effect other school's players?

Little disingenous to protect our own, and not iowa's or UNL's or KU's.

Critiquing a player = fine.

Blathering on and on senselessly about how bad a player is, he should transfer, hope player X leaves instead of player Y, etc. = foolishness.

I agree that player bashing should be stopped. It might be hard to draw a distinct line between bashing and "constructive" criticism. It would be up to the discretion of the moderator. At least we could stop blatant and embarrassing ISU player bashing.

Good luck enforcing it, as it will all be up to individual interpretation. Some things are clear, others not so much.

Common sense prevailing would be nice, but not likely.

I would be all for this but like others have said it hard to draw that line between criticizing and straight up bashing a player.

This site censors too much already... I understand the need for some of it, but it's the old slippery slope. You start regulating one thing, it just spirals out of control.

Yet it's a privately owned board - so that interpretation is the one that counts....

Also, not sure why coaches necessarily have to fall under this. They're drawing a paycheck. The players aren't - or at least I certainly hope the aren't.

The irony is that this site has become a destructive aspect in the success of the sports teams it purports to support.

Not only are the players built up on this site the be super human (see Bo Williams), but everyone wants everything today vs. tomorrow. There are a lot of people on here that cannot grasp the fact that it takes time to develop players, and to install systems into the program. People bash a freshman for making a bad hit in football, or for a freshman missing a clutch shot at the end of basketball game. These kids are 18 yrs old for Pete's sake. They are going to make mistakes.

They see guys that are plugged in winning programs and succeed (aka Brian Kelly at Cincinnatti) and they think well why can't so-and-so do that here, after a 4 and 8 season.

Sometimes people just need to step back from the keyboard, let their frustrations die down a little, and take a look at the big picture.

Maybe Jeremy needs to institute at 2 hour lock-down after losses for people to cool off.
