I think we would bring more fans to the Meineke Car Care bowl than TCU, even though they are in the state of Texas, so even at 6-6 I think we could jump them if they have the same record.

doubt it.

my projections

Kansas St. BCS at-large-Fiesta
Oklahoma BCS at-large-Sugar
Texas-Cotton
OSU-Alamo
Tech-BWW
ISU-Holiday
TCU-Meineke
WVU-Pinstripe

Wow, what's with the pessimism? We've got a record that is far better than what it was supposed to be and three winnable games left on the schedule.

I like our chances to go to the Holiday bowl, but wow, USC Stanford, or UCLA? How about an "upset special" in a bowl win?

I don't see pinstripe happening. Even if we're 6-6 things will be close enough at the bottom 3 bowls that i could see some movement around, and pinstripe will do anything it can to avoid repeating us. If it went say... WVU-Holiday, TCU-Houston, ISU-Pinstripe by pure record, i could see holiday and pinstripe trading teams to get more fans out. We would probably bring more to holiday and WVU would bring more to pinstripe than we would.

Plus currently Pitt is the Big East blogger's prediction for the pinstripe bowl. If they could make that WVU-Pitt matchup happen, they surely would.

Just had a thought that made me want to puke.. in their last games, Oregon, KState, and ND all have very losable games. If USC beats Oregon in the Pac12 Championship, Texas beats KState, and USC also beats ND, we're looking at another SEC vs SEC Championship game. Sounds crazy, but look at the rest of the BCS rankings. Outside of those 3, everyone else in the top 8 is SEC. If those 3 lose, its gonna happen.

Let's just get a win on Saturday so that we can start next week's trend: Holiday Bowl reservation/shopping threads combined with threads telling people to slow down, not to take Kansas for granted, also combined with threads projecting a very possible 8 win regular season.

Do it, Cyclones! Get that win. We know what to do next.

I'll update it with who I think they'll play.

Kansas St. BCS at-large-Fiesta vs. Notre Dame

Oklahoma BCS at-large-Sugar vs. Florida
Texas-Cotton vs. LSU
OSU-Alamo vs. winner of Stanford/UCLA game
Tech-BWW vs. Michigan St.
ISU-Holiday vs. UCLA/USC winner
TCU-Meineke vs. Iowa or Minnesota if they get their 6th win
WVU-Pinstripe vs. Pitt

If we drop to the Meineke, there is a very good chance we'd play Iowa because of the Big 10 only having 6 bowl eligible teams. If WVU somehow loses out then to avoid that, ISU will automatically have to be in the Meineke

Lots of interesting scenarios. Key games/teams to keep an eye on.

The Big 10 race.
---------
Iowa might play a huge part in who we'd play in a bowl game.

Right now you have Mich St. at 5 wins, Minnesota at 5, and Iowa at 4.

Mich St. would be the 5th team selected today. Mich St. and Minnesota have to play each other yet. The winner of that will go bowling. Of course if both of them win a game then both will go. Iowa could sneak in at the 6th spot with 2 wins.

The question is, would the bowl committee pick Iowa or Minnesota? Tough call, I think Iowa travels better but they won't be too thrilled at their bowl game. ISU has played Minnesota recently as well.

If ISU drops from the Holiday, then the Meineke will have to pick between ISU and WVU. I think they'd want ISU due to travelling fan base and location. If Iowa is the last big 10 team standing, then it's a very real possibility.

Pac-12
----------
If ISU gets picked for the Holliday, then they'd likely get the winner of USC vs. UCLA. I can't see USC not getting picked behind Oregon St., and I think Oregon St. loses to Stanford and Oregon.

Big East
----------
If ISU drops here again, they'd play the fourth best team from the Big East. Right now it looks like Pitt might be the only choice as the remaining teams (Temple, Syracuse) have to play top teams in the conference while Pitt has UCONN and S Florida yet to play.

Games that will impact our bowl opponent

This week
------------
Minnesota @ Illinois (Minnesota win gives them bowl eligibility)
Oregon St. @ Stanford (loser of this game would be a potential Holiday Bowl opponent)
Arizona St. @ USC (ASU win would put them as a possible opponent)

Nov.10
-----------
Northwestern vs. Mich St. (Mich St. loss means they have to beat Minnesota)

Nov.17
----------
Michigan St. @ Minnesota (winner goes bowling)
Stanford @ UCLA (both teams are potential Holiday bowl teams)

Big East games with Pitt, Syracuse, and Temple

if that happens then ISU would get ****ed over as OU would not go to a BCS game likely. Would drop us to at best Meineke and I think Pinstripe would take WVU over us so we would go to the Heart of Dallas playing against the last of the 3 of Mich St., Iowa, or Minnesota if they are all eligible or a team from a lower conference

Iowa will likely get one more win but I can't see them getting the two they'd need to go bowling. They'd need to take care of business against Purdue and then get a big upset against Michigan or Nebraska.

Iowa-ISU isn't great demographically, so it wouldnt be great for TV. Pitt-WVU is better in that respect, plus they didn't play this year thanks to WVU leaving the big east.

This could be interesting. The conventional wisdom is that a bowl wouldn't want an Iowa/ISU rematch because the game has already been played, and the TV wouldn't be good. That said, I think the WVU/Pitt matchup would be extremely attractive to the Pinstripe. With conference realignment, that is a major rivalry that has been taken off the schedule, and both teams would probably travel pretty well for the Pinstripe. They could refuse to play ball and basically force an Iowa/ISU matchup.

Personally, I would love a Big Ten matchup this year. Looking at the possible teams, I think we win against whoever they could put up against us.

Iowa can't even beat doormat Indiana. They have a 1% chance of beating Nebr. and Mich.

My first choice is Holiday, anything really but the Pinstripe.

Agree. WVU will likely finish 7-5 if they can beat us, or 6-6 if we beat them. WVU would seem to be destined for the Pinstripe, and a Pitt/WVU matchup would be a great game that both fan bases would love.

I hope we can get to 7-5 and take Pinstripe off the table, but even if we finish 6-6, I doubt we go back two years in a row (although last year was not that bad since we got lucky with decent weather for the game). But just as likely to be playing in rain and cold. No thanks.

Holiday sounds lovely, but yikes, USC?

I think we get 2 of our last 3 and a trip to San Diego MAYBE even jump up to BWW since the Fiesta Bowl Committee loves the state of Iowa, BUT...

If worse comes to worse and we are 6-6 and find ourselves back in New York, I think the team would treat it much more like a business trip this time.

Anywhere but NYC, that is an impossible trip for families.

One thing that nobody is talking about is the assumption that Oklahoma is going to get a 2nd BCS bid for the Big 12.

Let's try to guess the 4BCS at large spots

1. Notre Dame (basically a guarantee at this point)
2. SEC team (guaranteed)

If Nebraska wins out, including the B10 championship, they'll guarantee Louisiana Tech doesn't get an at-large spot, but if Nebraska slips somewhere, LA Tech probably goes BCS since they'll be rated higher than the B10 champ.

That leaves either 1 or 2 spots available (assuming there are no upsets in Conf championship games) for a mix of

-Oklahoma
-Pac12 team
-Clemson

Let's assume there are 2 at large spots available. Oregon goes to the title game and the Rose bowl selects a PAC12 team as a replacement. Then if you're the Sugar bowl, do you take Oklahoma or Clemson? I don't think anybody really knows who they'd take. Point is, whatever happens to Oklahoma is going to have a big effect on ISU's destination.

Phil Steele has us in the Heart of Dallas Bowl playing Middle Tennessee

Phil Steele

Interesting. At least he has fixed his mistake from last week assuming a Big 12 team would go the Music City Bowl, which does not even have a Big 12 tie in.

But this week assuming that the Pinstripe Bowl (that picks ahead of the Dallas bowl) will bypass ISU for Ohio Univ seems kinda far-fetched.

Jan 1 in Dallas would not be awful. Still prefer to get to 7-5 and make the Holiday or Insight.

**Edit: thought this was NFL Network, but ESPNU. Might be kinda fun to play in the old Cotton Bowl. Is Insight still on NFL?

You'd think they would have learned their lesson after the world ignored the Insight Bowl for the 2 years it was on NFL network.
