You are correct mostly. My 5 3 daughter was moved to front her when her teams 6 footer got into foul trouble by end of the 1st. She scored 2-4 more points the rest of the way by with my daughter fronting her and getting physical. By mid third quarter, Crooks wasn't even looking for the ball since my daughter was pushing back hard into her (no way my daughter would be able to move her and she knew it) and Crooks wasn't even looking for the ball and spent most of the time using her forearm to push my daughter down and away from her. She was also complaining about the contact she was receiving.

Is she D1?........... Yes for non P6. As a P6, Yes as a project. There are several other weak points in her game that needs to be cleaned up and I don't want to make it look like I'm piling so I won't go into specifics. It also depends on the type of system she is in. A faster paced, 3 point type team like ISU, I don't see it. A more set offense and slower paced one more like our men run, yes, that would be more her style. The other part of my project statement is fairly obvious.

The big thing is, people are talking about her coming her and being that down low banger, that is not her game, she is not a physical player.

To me another thing you have to factor is the high school level of play. I assume she does AAU so maybe there she gets some high level competition but difference in 1A basketball to 5A is quite different.

Not exactly sure.

They do play some 5A schools and she seemed to hold her own, but they are lower scoring than the usual games. The conference she plays in has 1-2 other decent teams and then a major drop off in overall abilities. Her and her point guard (whom I told is a to be Drake commit) both play on the same AAU team. 1A players generally struggle at the P6 level just because of not having the easy nights so often.

Iowa State needs a dominant post player like Crooks to go against the likes of Baylor and Texas. Won't be surprised if she ends up at Iowa.
NW Iowa has generally been Iowa territory. Started long ago when Iowa BB had TV broadcasts out of Sioux City. Zero ISU coverage across the state except for WOI which at the time was owned and operated by ISU.

WOI is actually the ABC affiliate that Algona gets, and I would call that NC Iowa.

Just my observation on physical play with Crooks is that in high school she is so much bigger than who she plays against she gets called for fouls if she touches the smaller players. This will not be the case in college so if she wants to be physical less chance she gets called. Just look at Mondays game the body contact that was not called no way this is not called in high school.

3/3 10:00 AM -- Aili Tanke (2024 ISU verbal) Johnston -- 5A semi vs Pleasant Valley
3/3 10:00 AM -- Halle Vice (2023 ISU recruit) Pleasant Valley -- 5A semi vs Johnston
Johnston leads 30-20 at half. Vice (#12) has 2 points on 1-7 shooting. Tanke (#30) has 3 at half on 1-3 shooting, but she just hit a three early in Q3 to give her 6 points.

EDIT: The stats person gave her Q3 three to a different player, so one of us is wrong.

EDIT 2: I went back to check, and I was right. They inadvertently gave her three to Gossling (#20 with long blonde hair) instead of Tanke (#30 with long blonde hair).

Tanke had the 3 early in the 3rd Q.

Johnston ending up winning 64-44. They were up 26 middle of 4th quarter before bringing backups in. Johnston is so talented. I would not be surprised if their 2nd five would be a State Tournament team.

Dike New Hartford team in 2A includes the Peyton and Jadyn Peterson. The younger twin daughters of UNI a volleyball Coach Peterson. Anyone know if they are receiving college interest. If I remember from last year Peyton was the better basketball player of the two.
I would be shocked if they don’t end up playing volleyball for their mom

Yep, I went back and confirmed the three and edited my post right when you replied.

Johnston is really impressive. Very smooth team.

I used to live in that neck of the woods, and we never got WOI TV.
I used to go to a friends house in Algona to watch games on occasion. She lived in Algona and I lived in Hancock county. Hancock county ABC was Austin, MN and Kossuth county was Ames.

I lived 21 miles from Algona but still in Kossuth County and we always got Austin as the ABC affiliate.

I was looking at Iowa's recruit list yesterday and it says they HAVE offered Williams.

Williams looks to be a really nice player. Might not be the best pure shooter, but has good handle, athletic and physical for a 5'11" player. She is type of player ISU needs to compete against schools like Texas & Baylor.

The West Waterloo v Johnston game should be a fun watch.

Shantavia Dawkins update: Southwest Academy did quality for the March tournament without needing a play-in game (every team had a shot, but the bottom teams had to win play-in games). I believe they are the 6 seed, so they have the following schedule:

Quarterfinal: Thurs March 3 12:00 PM
Semifinal: Sat March 5 12:00 PM
Final: Sun March 6 4:00 PM

All games are supposedly streaming here: https://www.ontariosba.ca/osbatv
(EDIT: Direct link to the youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/osbatv )

All details: https://www.ontariosba.ca/news_article/show/1211322
I forgot this game was today. Southwest Academy lost 73-67, ending their season. I don't have final stats, but the replay can be streamed here:

Since this is basically a girls state tournament thread, too...

MMCRU knocked off top seed and 3x defending champ Newell-Fonda this afternoon in the 1A semis.

MMCRU's coach? Gillian (Bjerke) Letsche, a name familiar to longtime ISU WBB fans.

Just came on here to post the same thing!
