Should be fun to see her play with Jenica Lewis (8th grader) next year. She seems to defer offensively to the older players (she's a soph). I'm curious to see her progression the next two years.

Des Moines Roosevelt with Arianna Jackson is up next.Johnston advances…City High goes down.
I wouldn't worry too much about her shot selection -- welcome to high school ball, where they work the ball around for 60+ seconds (no shot clock lol) before turning it over or forcing a contested shot, or some low % gunner off the bench might throw up a 3 after one pass just because she's open. The better offensive systems at a school like ISU will bring out the best in her.Saw all four 5A games today in person. Joens very skilled but didn't have a good game today; seemed to have poor sense of what a good shot was given the game situation.
I wouldn't worry too much about high school games in general. The coaches see them play AAU ball all the time, and I assume most scholarship offers are based on what they see in AAU.I wouldn't worry too much about her shot selection -- welcome to high school ball, where they work the ball around for 60+ seconds (no shot clock lol) before turning it over or forcing a contested shot, or some low % gunner off the bench might throw up a 3 after one pass just because she's open. Boxscore shows her with 32 points (15 of 18 with a couple of free throws).Bishop Garrigan blows Notre Dame out of the water. I believe Crooks ended up with about 38 points. Prob off 1 or 2.
Iowa State needs a dominant post player like Crooks to go against the likes of Baylor and Texas. Won't be surprised if she ends up at Iowa.Updated schedule of ISU WBB verbals and recruits at the IGHSAU state tournament:

3/3 10:00 AM -- Aili Tanke (2024 ISU verbal) Johnston -- 5A semi vs Pleasant Valley
3/3 10:00 AM -- Halle Vice (2023 ISU recruit) Pleasant Valley -- 5A semi vs Johnston

She's visited Iowa State dozens of times. I am unaware of any visits to Iowa. She needs to improve her post defense dramatically if she's going to go up against Baylor and Texas.Iowa State needs a dominant post player like Crooks to go against the likes of Baylor and Texas. No inside info. Just not convinced she’s coming to Iowa State. Why is that? Inside information?
My source in Waterloo says Williams wants to go to Iowa, but they have not offered.Updated schedule of ISU WBB verbals and recruits at the IGHSAU state tournament:

She doesn’t like physical play. Baylor and Texas would eat her up. Getting up and down the court will be a problem in ISUs offense. Iowa seems to have an offense that either takes off or walks it down, more to her liking. Plus, those players that were black and gold in HS seem to like to keep those colors.Iowa State needs a dominant post player like Crooks to go against the likes of Baylor and Texas. If I remember correctly, your much smaller daughter had a successful defensive outing against Crooks by simply fronting her. You don’t seem excited to have her commit to ISU. Are you of the opinion she’s not a D1 level player? She doesn’t like physical play. Baylor and Texas would eat her up. Getting up and down the court will be a problem in ISUs offense. You are correct mostly. My 5 3 daughter was moved to front her when her teams 6 footer got into foul trouble by end of the 1st. She scored 2-4 more points the rest of the way by with my daughter fronting her and getting physical. By mid third quarter, Crooks wasn't even looking for the ball since my daughter was pushing back hard into her (no way my daughter would be able to move her and she knew it) and Crooks wasn't even looking for the ball and spent most of the time using her forearm to push my daughter down and away from her. She was also complaining about the contact she was receiving. If I remember correctly, your much smaller daughter had a successful defensive outing against Crooks by simply fronting her.
