Thought I would post this just because I'm trying to kill off the rest of the afternoon. I was scrolling through the program's history and saw what the overall W/L records are since the very beginning (1973). Going into the 2020-21 season, Iowa State's overall record stood at 778-637 (.550), while the conference record was 282-316 (.472). If you add where we are in league games this season (2-0), ISU is just 32 games below .500, which is nothing short of incredible, considering just how truly bad things were when Fennelly first arrived in Ames.

KSU games with OU (1/2) and WVU (1/5) postponed.

That's 3 conference games so far (KU/UT) that are looking for a space in the schedule. Good thing the Big 12 built in an extra open week at the end of the season.

From Big 12:

K-State WBB Matchups Against OU, WVU Postponed

In accordance with Big 12 Conference women’s basketball game interruption guidelines, the Kansas State games against Oklahoma (Saturday, Jan. 2) and West Virginia (Tuesday, Jan. 5) have been postponed due to a pause in team activities for K-State.

The Conference will work with the three programs to reschedule the games for later in the season.

The regular season for everyone except BU and UT is scheduled to end Feb. 24. (Bears/Horns play March 1.)

WVU is at ISU on the 24th, so I could see WVU at KSU on the 27th (one trip for WV), KSU at OU on March 3, and KU/UT on March 6.

More postponements, thanks to Kansas:

1/2 - WVU at KU - PPD
1/6 - KU at ISU - PPD

WVU will now play at OU on 1/3 (game moved up from 1/16).

".... has been postponed due to Kansas being unable to meet the roster thresholds established by the league. "

Anyone know what the league roster threshold is? They reported 53 for football with some specifics about individual positions but haven't seen anything about the basketball minimum other than an earlier reference to Texas cancelling vs Tennessee because they could not field 6 healthy players. Think six is that league threshold to postpone?

If it is that's horrible. Your basically saying most of your team has to play the entire 40 minutes. Especially what if your 6 includes most of your end of the bench players.

Per this link, the minimum is indeed six scholarship players. At least they don't include walkons.

Gophers 2021 recruit Katie Borowicz is joining the Gophers today. Graduated and enrolled. First reaction was "yikes" than thought might as well. Gophers are looking to auger in this year in a really strong Big 10 and everyone gets that "extra" year if they want so why the heck not.

"But uncertainty in the age of COVID-19 prompted Borowicz to speed things up. She graduated early from Roseau, enrolled at the University of Minnesota and has joined the Gophers program. She is expected to be in uniform when the Gophers play at Wisconsin on Sunday."

From Roseau, almost Canada, which you all should know from being Megan Taylor fans.

Makes me wish one of our posts for 2021 could have done this. Would be good experience and a no loss of eligibility years.

There are a few players nationwide doing this, and there is little downside outside of missing your last semester of high school. That one thing is probably a big deterrent for many kids (especially since you'd be dropping out of your final high school basketball season).

Going to be on ESPNU facing the new look TT team but not till Sunday. Going to be a long week but then we get four games in nine days.

Have not seen them play and don't know anything about this Marleneless team other than new coach and added Vivian Gray. With some cancelled games they haven't played anyone but creampuffs and three Big 12 games. Beat TCU and got smoked by Baylor and routed by OSU. Since they grabbed a couple players off the Cowgirls roster I kinda liked seeing OSU smack 'em hard. Need our Texas scout @geewago to fill us in.

Now it's going to be a serious scramble to get all of the games in.

KU and KSU are now both down 4 conference games.
WVU is down 2.
BU, ISU, OU, OSU, TCU and UT are all down 1.

Does not look good to have a complete season playing all games. I will be the bad guy now and say any team that can not play a game must forfeit that game. IMO it is not fair for schools that do a good job staying healthy to have teams that do not end up with a record that gets them into the big dance because they did not get to play all the scheduled games. Example the big 10 in football.

The options are running out.
(1) Fill up the open week at the end of the season
(2) Move already-scheduled games to accommodate postponements
(3) Shoehorn games in; some teams may end up playing back-to-back days

It may come down to weird solutions, such as...
Both ISU (2:00) and KU (4:00) have home games already scheduled on 2/6
The ISU/KU game in Ames (ppd from 1/6) gets played on the afternoon of 2/7
ISU at OU on 2/9 gets pushed back to 2/10

Of course I don't want ISU to miss games. However, I'm really disappointed to see the Baylor-Conn game cancelled.

Probably some opportunity this week to play if anyone was willing to travel on short notice but thinking they do not. Had to admire Drake buzzing down to Austin last month on short notice when Texas had an open date.

Big 12 got lucky in football, had cancelations and all but nothing that really impacted 1st or 2nd and the champ game.
