Regarding Dekkers - he's had some inaccurate throws, yes, but he also had a couple drops early in the Kansas game. Its also somewhat unrealistic to expect a guy sitting (standing) on a bench to come in lights out all the time. I don't have many concerns at this point regarding him. If anything I'm more excited by his run against Kansas - Yes, it was Kansas, I know - but I still had no idea he could run reasonably well.

I'm sure he has plenty to work - when to put touch on the ball, when he can unleash it etc - thats to be expected. but I'm not worried about a handful of pass plays - the talent flashes. Its up to how hard he works - the coaching staff - and learning from a successful guy in front of him and learn everything he can from a 4 year starter.

---------------------------------

Overall and this might sound crazy because I'm sure it is - why can't we win 7 or 8 games next year? Yes, we'll be young. Granted - but we tend to start slow in September anyways so an early bump or two there really is kind of muted by that fact that we tend to have them anyways.

Hufford, Simmons, Remsburg - presuming he's back in the starting lineup - plus Ramos who started in the past return for at least a decent foundation of some experience. And potentially Downing. Plus potentially some of the younger guys to step up.

Brock, Silas, Sanders - sure, they may not individually be as good as Breece but thats not a bad running back room.

I feel like receiver (IMO) is really where we might be youngest but given that that might be the weakest position on offense this year outside of Hutchinson in terms of proven commodities - I'm not sure if that's a back breaker? I like Potter's quickness, Andersen and Bitter have had moments etc...and of course Noel. So It'll be a young group yes but similar to TE where you have Rus and then a guy like Dean who has had flashes as receiver but I wonder about his prowess blocking.

Defensively - I'll worry about line backer even though Vaughn played well while filling in for Vance, I lke Horne's ability - but losing all three of those guys who have meant so much... that's potentially devastating.

Up front I agree if McDonald leaves that'll hurt but honestly I think we'll miss Eyioma's ability to play nose and end in the front and command blockers. I think he has a good chance of making a roster - drafted maybe not. But the ability to play inside and outside in the NFL I think gives him a chance.

the Secondary I feel like is set up well, especially if Young comes back. Again, younger but a lot of those guys have had big moments with tampa, McDonald and Beau along with King.

Kicker - well, thats a worry but it usually has been so I'm not going to fret too much.

------------------------------------------------

do I think they'll challenge for a big 12 title ? No, probably not.
But I will be more surprised if they go 4-8 than if they are in the running and finish 8-4.
but that's just me.

Interesting that you didnt have Scates on here even all the way back in October. You have some good foresight. Maybe time for an update with Johnson

Where does Tristan Michaud fit in? The guy is is the same size as Shaw and seemed like a better athlete in film. Is he just way to far away from a WR skill standpoint.

Since this season isn't over, hard to judge that statement 6 games in. How many wins this year? My expectation is the Clones will finish regular season 8-4.

From a talent standpoint, I definitely think we can be better. More important, from an execution standpoint, I definitely think we can perform better.

We have some big shoes to fill on defense guys but guys like Young, Tampa, Purchase, Freyler, Vaughn, Horne, Lee and Singleton are guys who could make next year's defense bigger and faster. If Zach Petersen comes back, I like his motor to be a big time pass rusher.

On offense we have 3 studs to replace in Purdy, Hall and Kolar. Obviously, replacing Purdy is the biggest question mark because QB experience matters. No matter who ISU's QB is next fall, there will be a learning curve.
  • But I love our OL talent returning- we'll have 4 guys (assuming Downing) with extensive starting experience back.
  • The group of Brock, Sanders and Silas could match Breece Hall's production as a group.
  • Hutchinson is a tough loss, but as group we could be much better with Noel, Shaw, Jackson, Porter, etc.
  • Kolar will be tough to replace since whoever steps in will have played limited snaps as a Cyclone. But if our WR group is better, maybe the TE position group can be a step below this year.
Overall, I look at many of our super seniors as overachievers from a talent standpoint. Campbell's recruiting has gotten better over the last couple years and I see guys stepping in who have learned from the best. And are bigger and faster than the seniors they are replacing.
Well - I applaud your optimism. Hope you are correct. But I doubt next years team will have a better record than this year. Yes, we have some good young guys - but I doubt they can match this senior class - out of the chute.

Halfway through the season. Why not?
BOLD = True Freshman
Green = Could leave

QB - Hunter Dekkers, Aidan Bouman OR Rocco Becht
RB - Jirehl Brock OR Deon Silas OR Eli Sanders (Will be decided in camp)
WRX - Darren Wilson, Daniel Jackson, Darien Porter OR Greg Gaines
WRM - Jaylin Noel, Aidan Bitter OR Xavier Townsend
WRZ - Sean Shaw, Ezeriah Anderson
TE - Easton Dean, DeShawn Hanika OR Tyler Moore OR Andrew Keller
F - Jared Rus,
LT- Jarrod Hufford, Tyler Miller
LG- Trevor Downing, Hayden Pauls
C- Joey Ramos,
RG- Darrell Simmons, Deylin Hasert
RT- Jake Remsburg, Grant Treiber

DE - Corey Suttle, Johnny Wilson
DE - Blake Petersen, Jayden Gray OR R Mason Thomas
DT - JR Singleton, Isaiah Lee OR Tyler Onyedim
LB - Aric Horne, Carston Marshall
LB - Gerry Vaughn, Cole Pedersen
LB - Dae'Shawn Davis, Hunter Zenzen OR Jacob Imming
CB - Myles Purchase, Michal Antoine OR DJ Miller
CB - TJ Tampa, Tayvonn Kyle
S - Craig McDonald, Malik Verdon
Star* - Beau Freyler, Mason Chambers
S - Kym-mani King, Jordyn Morgan OR Jeremiah Cooper

I am leaning towards these players departing, but they could come back:
Tarique Milton
Colin Newell
Zach Petersen
Cordarrius Bailey
O'Rien Vance
Datrone Young
Isheem Young
I love a starting corner duo of Anthony Johnson and Myles Purchase that is going to be great.

- I think you nail the starting 5 OL. Ramos is a good center we've been told. Remsburg balled during the Fiesta Bowl year, wasn't healthy last year. Keeping Hufford at tackle is smart.

- WR: I think Daniel Jackson starts or Greg Gaines unseats somebody and starts right away. My starting 3 WR would be Jaylin Noel, Gaines (maybe our best WR recruit ever), and then Daniel Jackson. I am not sold on Shaw's speed and think he's a good goal line option.

- Blake Peterson I think is the breakout defensive guy on the team next year. Had two sacks this year and barely played much, maybe snaps in 4 games.

- Cole Pederson or Cory Reeder the transfer earns a starting LB spot. I like the other two with Gerry Vaughn and Aric Horne. Aric Horne makes plays when he's on the field, also love his speed. Kym Mani King is a difference maker at safety too. He played injured for almost the entire year with a messed up hand and was still really good.

We have almost no production returning at the skill positions - WR, TE, RB, QB. I don’t know if I can remember a year like this. WR and TE seem wide open for playing time so I think we could see 1 or 2 true freshman make an impact, as well as guys from the portal. I really hope Stogner was wowed by the crowd in Hilton and enjoyed hanging out with Charlie Kolar. I think Stogner is a big talent and ISU’s TE-heavy scheme has to be appealing. He’s a Mackey Award finalist if he can fill Charlie’s spot. That would help a ton.

Soooo ummmm.... there was a reason I didn't want to update the board when people were asking a week ago..

I'm going to take names out of guys transferring, but I won't add anyone until the dust settles. More transfers out and in to come.
Anderson at WRZ is gone and Anthony Johnson is back right? I think those are the only two changes you still need to make on the original board. Thanks for tracking this

No inside info, but with rumors of a couple more transfer outs (and on the DL), wonder if Howard Brown is one of the next to leave. Interesting that 4L didn't include him in the 2022 depth chart

I’d stick Hufford back at LT, Downing back to LG and Ramos to C.

I’d also have Lee starting at DT.

can’t argue much else at the moment.

Ix X coming back? I have a hard time seeing him not make a run at the NFL

Lazard and Scates were higher rated, hopefully Gaines will perform somewhere closer to Lazard.
