After X and McDonald announced they're coming back here's where I'm at. Under each position group, I put whether I thought they'd be better, the same, or worse than 2021. All told, it'll be an exciting lineup to watch.

Defense:
DL: better
MJ Anderson / Blake Peterson / Johnny Wilson / Ikenna Ezogu
Isaiah Lee / Singleton / Howard Brown / Hunter Deyo
Will McDonald / Corey Suttle / Tyler Onydiem

LB: worse
Transfer? / Carston Marshall
Gerry Vaughn / Hunter Zenzen
Vance? / 3 freshman

Safety: worse
Beau Freyler
Craig McDonald
Jordyn Morgan / 2 freshman

CB: better
TJ Tampa / Michael Antione
Anthony Johnson / Myles Purchase

Offense:
Backfield: Worse
Hunter Dekkers / Becht / Clark
Jirhel Brock / Deon Silas / Eli Sanders / C. Norton

TE / F: Worse
Easton Dean / Tyler Moore / DeShawn Hanika / Andrew Keller
Jared Rus

OLine: Same?
Tyler Miller
Trevor Downing
Joey Ramos
Darrell Simmons Jr.
Jarrod Hufford
Backups: Grant Treiber/Jake Remsburg/Pauls

WR: Better
Xavier Hutchenson
Shawn Shaw
Jaylen Noel
Daniel Jackson
Backups: Porter/Gaines/Essix/freshman

Nice work, pretty much agree with a couple of areas for 'discussion':

Safety - I would go same but different (Better pass coverage, drop in run support) However, by then end of season - better.

OL - Better be better, a lot of playing time back and healthier (for now). Don't think I will place a bet there though.

Special Teams? - Mevis huge loss but a young stud coming in? Probably worse, which makes me sad.

Don’t forget the transfer backer from Delaware! Probably as good as at least one of our starters last year. Add in Vance and Vaughn - We will be very strong at LB !

Two line questions:
1. Wasn't Remsburg considered a returning starter this year, or did he play alot the year before because we had an injury ahead of him?
2. Have seen people comment about playing guards instead of tackles. What's the main difference of the two, and I dont mean their position on the line. What best describes who fits the two roles?
Regarding #2: body type. Tackles are usually longer and quicker.

The offensive line improving would go pretty far towards shoring up how the QB and the RB play. Purdy and Hall did some heroic stuff to still be productive with a barely functioning line in front of them. If the line is more passable, then their replacements, who are definitely not as experienced and might not be as talented as the "big two," might actually have a chance to maintain the same level of gameday productivity.

Much as this is borrowing Iowa and Wisconsin's playbook, if there is a unit on the field I could choose to be consistently elite year-to-year, it would be the offensive line. Everything flows from it.

I''m clueless....didn't even know we had a Cook in qb room. What's his background?
Marv Cook's son. PWO, but not your typical walk on big kid, 6-5 ish strong accurate arm. It's been said he was getting 3rd unit reps over Bouman. Had FCS scholarship offers.

1.) He won playing time outright last year. He had a nagging injury this fall that kept him out of the lineup. I'm really excited to see him healthy next fall protecting Hunter's blindside (Lefty - RT)

2.) A tackle has to be quicker off the snap, with a larger reach and more athletic because they are going up against more athletic opponents (DE vs DT)

Yeah. LBs seems like the most worrisome. Hopefully we see someone really step up big from these youngsters/transfers.

I am not sold on Purdy being gone, I could see Zach Peterson, Derek Schweiger, O'Rein Vance and Colin Newel all back as super seniors. Maybe Anthony Johnson?
Anthony Johnson already announced he’s coming back

Dave Andrews, the OL coach, and the OL have a very critical spring and summer. I agree. If we need one group to take a big leap, that is it. If they're meaningfully improved I can see a 8-4 season.
