I'll go to the Eve 6 concert but I will definitely say I was hoping for better. No Big 'n Rich disappoints me. Paying to go disappoints me. Limited number of attendees disappoints me.

I would like to echo the thoughts of another poster about bragging to others about VEISHEA.... not so this year.

Yeah, I can understand them trying to control numbers and such... especially because they know that a lot of non-ISU people come to Veishea.. however, I'd like to hear from someone exactly why this year we have to pay to get in, when other years we haven't.

Not to mention, only allowing one person to potentially buy one band for a non-ISU friend... if friends are coming to visit, there's most certainly going to be more than one of them, which effectively keeps that ISU student from going to the concerts.

By the way, someone said that Stars Over Veishea was only for students.. that's definitely wrong. Anybody can get tickets to it.

I just wonder why the 10,000 hours show can get a band like Reel Big Fish and not Veishea... Reel Big Fish at Veishea would be awesome!

WAIT: WTF!?!?!?! NON-IOWA STATE STUDENT HERE SEVERELY PISSED OFF IF THIS BS IS TRUE.

Are you telling me that I cannot see the performers because I am not an ISU student? you have got to be kidding me...VEISHEA may officially suck now...I am not the only out of towner coming in to visit friends and have fun (I think there is quite a bit of us actually.) So am i just supposed to stay home while only Iowa State students go to the show? That is beyond crap. This is going to be the worst VEISHEA in the history of VEISHEA if the stuff being said is true. Was last year REALLY that bad that they are doing this? God dammit Iowa State, don't ruin this too...

Sorry, isucyclone4. It's true. To buy a wristband to the concert, you have to be either a student or faculty, and present your ISU ID. If there are wristbands left, then they'll let you buy one for a friend. (unless of course, they'd let you buy more than one for friends. It isn't very clearly stated in that regard).

Edit: If you want the source, the first post in this thread has a link to the official Veishea page which has everything on it.

I understand that some money was slashed this year but come on...I think the last thing to go would be the performances because a lot of people would come to Ames just to see the bands. Also not letting anyone but ISU faculty and students in is kinda lame. Not that anyone else will want to go because the bands just aren't that good. Someone didn't think this all out before they made a decision. I'm sure the VEISHA committee will hear about this from numerous people. I, for one, am not impressed!

Oh yeah, I agree...they WILL be hearing from me...I urge all out of towners and non-ISU, non-faculty people who go to Ames or attend VEISHEA a lot to say something...could someone please help me out with some #'s to call on this one???

I cannot believe how stupid of a move this is...Yeah, who wants people to visit Ames, lets try to keep outsides away from us. People bringing in business and money is bullcrap. good lord. I understand Ames, IA isn't the biggest tourist place in the world, but it isn't bum--nowhere either

VEISHEA is prolly the best known event that goes on in Ames...I am seriously thinking of not going for that weekend for the first time in quite some years...WTG on this one City of Ames and Iowa State University...:skeptical::no::skeptical::no::skeptical::no:

Veishea went so well last year and so many people attended that the university big wigs are trying to make it suck this year because they don't want a lot of people coming to ames and potentially starting a riot. Thats why the bands suck, thats why you have to pay, to keep people from coming. If you ask me its dumb because instead of going to concerts people are just going to get TANKED including yours truly

Last years stuff kept me halfway sober...if "big wigs" as you put it are scared of a lot of people coming into ames and starting a riot...then they just potentially made decisions that WOULD start riots. LOTS of people are gonna be pissed about VEISHEA. I just wonder what the result will be? I could either see a lot of outrage coming, or just that people stop coming to Ames all together. I have family that lives there that I visit, and I LOVE Ames overall, but I must admit some people making decisions there are just plain idiotic. Heres to a boring VEISHEA, or perhaps the most forced, driven binge drinking in history. I say we riot. okay, thats not funny. or maybe it is, you tell me.

Of all the years to cut the budget, why pick the 150 anniversary of the University. I thought this was going to be one of the biggest and best Veisheas yet... oh well at least the centennial game was fun

Not funny. I'm pretty sure Pres. Geoffrey is on record after 2004 saying there won't be a VEISHEA anymore if more problems (riots, deaths) occur. Regardless of your opinion of this years entertainment, I think we can all agree that any VEISHEA is better than no VEISHEA.

By the way, I have no affiliation to the VEISHEA committee or anything, I just don't want it gone for future Cyclones.

you made some very good, well thought out points there. seriously.

I'm kind of holding out hope that some things will be changed before veishea in reaction to the backlash that is sure to come from the student population. should be interesting reading the 'letters to the editors' and the commentary articles in the daily the next few days.

Atleast Kelly Clarkson won't be here.

I'd take Kelly Clarkson over any of the other bands actually booked and I believe her fanbase may currently be slightly larger than Blessid Union of Souls. And people would actually recognize a few of her songs unlike Blessid Union...you know, unless they play Hey Leonardo on repeat for an hour.

So if the concert is outside, then I'll just stand right behind the paid admittance line and listen for free

What is this crap! I have a lot of friends left at ISU and they are pissed, not to mention everyone else.... I thought for the 150th it would be one of the best VEISHEA's, well not anymore. The only thing I will support is the battle of the bands because they are usually awesome.

This is so true. I'm not as big into going to concerts so maybe this doesn't affect me too much. I am going to have fun and enjoy myself no matter who is playing. The biggest problem I see with this is only letting students/faculty buy the wristbands. I can let needing wristbands slide, but limiting who can buy them is a terrible idea.
