So the wisconsin coaching staff is restricting him from going to certain schools? How can they do this? I understand the same conference but honestly why would it matter to the wisconsin coaching staff where he goes and how can they control his decision? I'm sure sure if i'm comprehending this correctly.

It's usually a conference rule that players can't transfer to another school in the same conference. All other schools on the restrictive list is up to the head coach and school. They usually restrict players from going to schools that they are scheduled to play in the upcoming seasons, which is why I understand Marquette but not us.

That is ridiculous. They base a kids college choice on the fact that they might have to play one game against the kid. How pathetic.

There's got to be a reason Wisconsin allegedly put Iowa State on the list of schools Uthoff can't visit. Either Iowa State was tampering with Uthoff or they are planning on scheduling Iowa State in the near future. They are not going to randomly restrict Uthoff from playing at Iowa State.

I don't think this news rules us out by any means. Uthoff is pretty bright and could get some academic money. Would it count against our scholly limit? Yes, but we have two open scholarships. We aren't paying his way this next year but he could still come here. He would still be getting 4 out of his 5 years of college paid for. Not bad.

The same scenario applies to the University of Iowa. Uthoff was down to Wisconsin and Iowa before his decision. What makes you think he would go to Iowa State over Iowa?

It's pretty obvious why we think he'd pick ISU over Iowa. There's the family connection, and the whole Cyclone fan thing. From our eyes, it's obvious, whether he would or not.

As far as your previous post, it's not at all obvious that we were tampering with Uthoff or working to schedule Wisconsin. The one is pure conjecture and the other doesn't sound much like our scheduling practice (unless it takes the change I hope it will).

It's perfectly valid to say that it all comes down to Bo Ryan being a petty little man right now.

I think coaches can just be jerks about it. Example: Brian Kelly isn't giving the Lynch kid an unconditional release. Instead of going to Florida, FSU, or Miami he might have to settle on South Florida. Lynch is a Florida native.

Did you hear that from a source, or just guessing?

Because I have felt that could be a reason, although I have no information... I have heard teams who "suspect" tampering will put the school in question on the list. IF thats the case, I can understand. If Bo is just putting BCS schools in his home state on the list, then it's a ****-move.

No source. I just can't think of any other reason why we'd be restricted. I've always respected Bo Ryan and Wisconsin basketball, but this is souring.

Easy gohawks. Never said he would choose ISU over Iowa just replying to the ISU fans saying it was over with him, which it isn't.

Congrats and finishing 2nd place for him out of HS by the way! Add him to the laundry list of athletes Hawks brag about being in the final running for including Mark Ingram.

Love ya, Man. I really do...but there is more reason for him to want Iowa City than Ames.

I'm not arguing that. I only listed 2 reasons that we Cyclone fans use to argue it. I'm not saying that those are his reasons or even reflect anything he's thinking. For all we know, he really dreamed of Marquette.

Transferring within a conference would be shaky. I'd rather not see guys do that in general.

sounds like he can still come here but will have to pay his own way and be a walkon for a year?

Yeah...sorry...I misread your post. You are exactly right. Windmill me please

Hey there, it's official that Iowa State is on the restricted list... which I find totally puzzling, but also there may be a reason for it and I spell that out in this report for MadTown Badgers.

Really disappointed if there isn't a valid reason behind it that's for sure. It's not like Bo to grant a release outside of limiting against Marquette and the rest of the Big Ten.

i don't believe the scheduling angle at all. no reason wisconsin would ever schedule us. they have two challenge games (pac12/ACC) + good preseason tourneys + marquette. that's plenty of preseason strength of schedule - they don't need lowly ISU.

I don't feel bad for Uthoff "getting screwed" here. He made the decision to go to Wisconsin over us, his fault.

Didn't we put school restrictions on Wesley Johnson when he transferred?? I thought Kentucky was on the restricted list for sure. Why would we do that?? We never played them reg. season.
