Nice addition. A better addition than Colorado probably

There is no doubt about that. Colorado was added for a whipping boy in football and basketball. Utah was added for competitive reasons. Utah will be able to hold their own in the Pac 11 and will get a nice bump in their recruiting as well.

well, there goes a seat at the table for tech, AtM, Baylor, OSU, or KU next time this all goes down. Pac 10 now probably limited to 4 schools they can potentially add in the future short of something really silly like a 20 team league.

So now the two conferences with "10" in their name actually have 12 teams, and the one conference with "12" in its name actually has 10 teams. Makes sense.

Probably doesn't help the cause, but the closest Boise is ever going to get to an automatic berth is in the MWC. The WAC was never going to get there. The MWC still holds a 2-1 record in BCS bowls (Boise & TCU) as well as one AP national champion (BYU). MWC probably is now going to have to add at least one of Fresno St or Nevada, probably Fresno St. While Fresno St hasn't cracked the BCS, they have come very close and are still one of the more respected non-BCS schools. It'd be a very good add for them.

I'd say that this move will end it for a year. But, I expect the same old crap to go down next summer. I'd bet money that Rutgers will be in the Big 11 by this time next year. Them and either UCONN or Syracuse. At that point, the SEC is going to start getting a little antsy and looking really hard at UNC and probably either FSU or Va-Tech. The ACC is going to want to stabilize themselves and will pick on the Big East to do it...with schools like Pitt, West Virginia, USF, UCONN.

I think that the current Big 12 is safe for a few years, but when/if things start heading toward 16 team super-leagues, you can bet that UT and KU will be on the first train to the Pac-10 and OU/ATM will be in the SEC in no time. Those schools will not be left out of the superconference movement. ISU, KSU, OSU, Baylor probably will.

Good post. While Boise State is not excited about Utah leaving, they probably aren't crying either. They have made a HUGE step up in class, reduced their travel costs, and can immediately contend for BCS spots. Going undefeated in the MWC will be a lot more impressive than in the WAC (if they can do it, and I suspect they won't).

UConn's not going to the Big 10 - they're not AAU. Unless it's Notre Dame, the Big 10 is going to hold fast to that requirement.

And if the SEC ends up destabilizing the ACC the way you think, I think it's actually the Big East that's going to pick the ACC apart. Paul Tagliabue isn't just going to sit there and let his conference die - that's not why he was hired.

They probably ARE crying a little bit, but they're not going to take their ball and go home either, if you know what I mean.
