Money is on GMAC..........although this weather is screwy - tomorrow is going to be tough on a lot of guys who are going to have to play 30+holes of US Open conditions.

Phil is looking real good right now.

He's actually struggling with his swing but has gotten some breaks and been able to get up and down. I think he's one putted the last 6 holes (or so it seems)

But that is what you have to do in the US Open

Not sure the eek face really applies here? Haha..

I could easily see Tiger winning it, & that's who I'd put money on if I were wagering. I want Rickie Fowler to win, but don't think his chances are great.

With it being a shorter course, I wonder if Tiger hits 3 wood more often off the tee. He seems more consistent with that than the driver.

Bet he hits irons and at most a 3 wood stinger to try and keep the ball low and not stuck in a fairway should he manage to actually hit one.

I can't imagine my score playing with rough that thick. I've only played one championship type course (without being set at championship type conditions) and shot 108

I played Olympia fields 2 years ago from the PGA Championship tees - i played about as well as i could and shot 86. Those guys on tour are just unreal.

Yes, they are. I played Kiawah Island (hosted Senior Open) ocean course. 98 degrees, 99% humidity. Darn near ran out of golf balls. I'd like to have played it twice, as my second round at a course is always better, but there is just no room for error.

That is pretty damn good. Did they have the rough as long as they generally do or was it more normal?

Solid round for Phil, especially some he arrived at the course a hour before his round after taking the red eye from San Diego.

I played at a country club with rough that thick, though not that long. It's one of those courses that's much different from the tips and I wanted that experience I thought. It turns out that's not what I wanted at all. 7500 yard and wet is not a good deal for me. Especially with that rough. Oh, yeah, and it's a links course with links greens. It was the hardest course I've ever played by far.

it was more normal - just very long course. plus we were the first tee time off and first few holes had a lot of dew. I hit driver into 2 par threes (made 3 on both!!). Just felt like half of the par 4's played like par 5's (3 shot holes).

I usually end up in the fairway off the tee, but since the holes are so long it would lead to me hitting into the rough on my approach. Chipping in rough this thick is completely random for mortals.

Are any of you duffers capable of back-spinning the approach shots? Been playing for 8 years still can't get it down.
