I found the article on the ISU Daily website.
You have a good memory. I had to register at the site to view it.

COLUMN: Alien House still a mystery after adventure

Ok I think when I was a freshman (2004) a report in the daily was created about a lighthouse for the aliens that some guy created that was near county line. The reporter never gave out the address because of basically he knew the same thing would happen that happened on here. Do you guys think the shrine and the light house are the same thing? If it is then I what i remember he created the light house so the aliens could find him the next time they come.

On another note, I lived in Freeman my freshman and sophmore year and never ran into ghosts but I did hear of a story about a student that snuck into the attic of barton and hung himself and people didn't find him for days and now he haunts the place.

Great work CYKID. Sounds like the Daily couldn't get any answers either. I'm a bit happy that I got a few more answers out of "Randy" than they were able to. Oh well, I'm sure we will all get the answers we want sometime.

Question for somebody: What is to the east of the T-intersection of North Dakota and Cameron School Road? We went a lil bit far on our way back into Ames and had to turn around. Those are some monster houses!

That would be Cameron Pines. A high profile ISU coach lives there.

Anybody know of an old abandoned psychiatric ward east of ames somewhere in the country? I remember hearing a story about a spooky place out there years ago but have never heard anything else about one.

A-town, I remember hearing about this when I was at ISU. It's close to Nevada or something from what I remember.

Nothing super awesome but my friends and I would go mess around in what we called the ames forest. map.
There was some cool places in there. Once we found a trampoline and a rope swing along the creek and just a bunch of other really fun things like that.

I love all the stories that have come from this "shrine".. I've heard of this man numerous times from my friends in Boone, and he's known around town as Spook, I knew his last name but can't think of it off the top of my head, from what I've heard he didn't have any children so the twins being hit doesn't seem plausible.. He's just not all there I guess, poor guy

I agree it has to be that he just lost it sometime. The 'shrine' is really a unique building. I can't imagine the amount of time it took to build and design, and then there is the game. another thing he couldn't have just thrown together. He had to of been a contractor or designer when he was younger. Its really sad that he has lost it or doesn't want people to know about it, because i find the building amazing.

Also a few years back my friends and I went into the steam tunnels, it was pretty warm down there but tons of spider webs. I didn't go far but my other friends went quite a ways in. Once we came out we saw a cop driving by so we took off. Luckily he didn't catch us.

Another thing, the whole beardshear basement and reports cards from the 1920s is false, they had old filing cabinets back in the day from accounts recievables down there, but 5 or so years ago they cleaned out all the filing cabinets and I was down there a year ago and there wasn't anything but empty rooms where the filing cabinets used to be, it's empty.. The papers in the cabinets were shredded so finding your grandpas report card in the basement of beardshear just isn't going to happen, unless he hid it behind the bricks or something

There are still old report cards down there, I've seen them. Most of them have been moved/destroyed, as you said, but there are still a few down there- at least there was about a year ago. There are not many and I never said there was, but there are some just laying around on the floor and on tables.

The cleaning started right after the first floor of Beadshear was remodeled. So, it started about 7 years ago, maybe 8.

Anyone remember the Daily article from a few years ago where someone in Helser found a note behind their dresser or whatever? a former resident had left it talking about life at the time... One of my regrets from college is I never got around to making a little time capsul to leave in my room for someone to find like that...

I use to spend quite a bit of time in the Memorial Union Browsing Library....looking at the old Bombs and other photographs of student life in the past century. Loads of neat items in that little room.
