Anyone remember the Daily article from a few years ago where someone in Helser found a note behind their dresser or whatever? a former resident had left it talking about life at the time... One of my regrets from college is I never got around to making a little time capsul to leave in my room for someone to find like that...

I lived in Helser when I went there and in fact a buddy down the hall had a cubby type hole by his "closet". His room was used for running piping up to the other levels so there was the voided area framed over by cabinetry. So they ended up storing beer bottles and such in there and then would put the piece of wood back over it when they were done. Kind of the same thing you're talking about. Not sure what else they put in there.

I think a lot of the wardrobe backings in Helser were just wood between adjacent rooms, like the medicine cabinets in Candyman. I know some guys on my floor drilled a small hole between them so they could "share" HBO that they paid extra for from the cable company.

One of my current roommates also stored liquor in a secret cubby-hole in his room back when he lived in Helser.

Up where I lived in Friley there were crawl space access panels in each room... They were screwed shut but it didnt take much to unscrew them... I was sad to not find anything in either of mine.... (thats where I wanted to leave a time capsule). As for storage though... We had a guy that used his for storage, including his Franzia boxed wine and the like

Lorch-Russell (one of the 5th floors)

hear stories of what used to be grown in closets too... but that was a few years before my time

They made that house an Honors cluster, in addition to a fresh start house, to try and clean up the floor a bit

I understand where both of you are coming from. I just think it's time to leave this guy alone. He's obviously crazy- can we leave it at that? I'm having flashbacks from high school where we all have to pick on the kid that's a bit different from everyone else and we'll go to great lengths to do it. Again, I can see the alure of this place and agree that it's completely spooky, but let's move on.

It is okay to let it all out AmesCloneFan. Those old wounds can reopen at any time. We are all family here. If any one on this message board picks on you just let me know and I will open up a big 'ol can of

Wow, I never expected this big of a thread. Maybe we should summarize and condense into a new thread. I can't even keep up with everything anymore.

I know what I want for Christmas now... A geiger counter.

I've lived here a while and have heard a lot of half-truth rumors. I've explored many buildings on campus and like to take photos.

I've been chased from the 'shrine' by its owner. I got into photography too late to get in on exploring the Boone and Story County mental/farms, which have both been torn down.

I'm curious if the video of the shrine where the guy ponders if they are human skulls really are human skulls?? If so, I imagine the police would be interested to know about it?

I've been in the basement of Gilman. I think the locked double doors just go over to Spedding. I worked for Ameslab as a student about 10 years ago and have been through the tunnels that connect spedding to the metalurgy buildings. I don't remember ever being able to find a sub-basement. I recently explored most of Gilman one Sunday and there are a lot of empty offices, but nobody accosted me and told me to leave.

If anyone ever wants to go exploring, I'm up for it. I've always got a camera with me and a loose interpretation of trespassing laws. I'd like to explore the basement of Beardshear or anywhere not normally known about. Lately, the buildings are locked most of the time I'm free to wander, it seems.

I don't break into places, but I do like to wander where I'm probably not wanted. I don't do anything but make photos though, so it's pretty harmless.

I've never encountered a nice farmer around here. Every single one I've asked permission to enter their property to take photos of something have yelled at me and told me to leave. I've been followed by a few of them too afterwards. People are just uptight and paranoid, as a rule.

From what I could tell from the video, they didn't look like skulls to me. The shape and size didn't seem right for that... but they were definitely odd.

Well, I don't know if my stalker-fu is stronger than others who have posted on the message board or not, but....

I now know the name of the person that owns the land. I also know what pieces of land he owns. I have highlighted it in red:

3103480652_83748d6b2f.jpg

As you can see, he owns everything surrounding the Sun Park other than the gravel road. So even if you were to sneak in from the south, he owns two sections and you'd be on his property.

I searched the Iowa Courts database and he has no history with the Iowa legal system.

My coworker who knew his name said he's a mentally unstable loner and that they doubted anyone would ever know why he chose to construct the park. They didn't think he ever had any kids, a wife, nothing. Of course, if he showed up one day out of nowhere, nobody knows about his past, kin, etc...

It's bizarre, but I know of at least three people just like this from around the part of Iowa I grew up. Everything is similar: no family, shoot at you/chase you if you get near, and nobody knows anything about them.

Rural Iowa gets a little interesting once you're free from the safety of city limits.

So getting back to talking about Campus... I came across this this evening among some papers... I don't remember where I got it but it's pretty cool - it shows the year that every building currently on campus was built
