did u go out there about 10:30

No...11:30ish..I'm too lazy to go back and check and see what time I posted I was leaving but I recall being back here posting about midnight.

Question for somebody: What is to the east of the T-intersection of North Dakota and Cameron School Road? We went a lil bit far on our way back into Ames and had to turn around. Those are some monster houses!

The grain bins were a little scary just because you didn't hear anything until you were by them, and there was quite a bit of traffic from the area farmers with several trucks and a few tractors going past this guys place too. I wonder what the people that live around him think of this guy.

I have truly enjoyed this thread and it would be a shame to have to shut it down. That being said, let's try to steer the conversation back to Urban Exploring at ISU.

We simply aren't going to allow a bunch of people to essentially harrass a private citizen and them come back to the board and brag about their oh so interesting and brave missions.

You have to kind of expect if people hear about something that strange that people are going to go out and check it out. Were not trying to harass the guy, were just checking out the creepy shrine thing he built. If the guy has a major problem with it he should know it's his fault for building something like that.

Public roads are public roads. If you want to drive by my house... feel free. We have a nice cyclone bench for you to look at if you want to. ;)

Back when the reference desk at Parks was still at the back of the main lobby, they had a really awesome book, called "The Buildings of Iowa State" or something like that. It only went up through 1980, but it was written by the University Architect at the time, and is a remarkably thorough and fascinating write-up of every single building that has ever stood on ISU's campus. There weren't a lot of secrets, per se, but there is stuff in there that I've never seen mentioned anywhere else. Emergency Hall is one of my favorites! Now that the whole lobby/LCC area got renovated and reorganized, I think those books got moved to University Archives upstairs. Definitely worth your time to sit and read, if you like ISU history. I sat down and read almost the whole thing in about 2.5 hours.

Out of curiosity... anybody know much about the Giant Pumpkin that got put up on the Morril Hall spire? I don't remember the specifics but remember hearing about it...

Anybody know of an old abandoned psychiatric ward east of ames somewhere in the country? I remember hearing a story about a spooky place out there years ago but have never heard anything else about one.

I've never heard about it, but it seems very interesting. Maybe we could get a large group of CFers to go check it out... I'm a wuss when it comes to doing this stuff alone!

Ok I think when I was a freshman (2004) a report in the daily was created about a lighthouse for the aliens that some guy created that was near county line. The reporter never gave out the address because of basically he knew the same thing would happen that happened on here. Do you guys think the shrine and the light house are the same thing? If it is then I what i remember he created the light house so the aliens could find him the next time they come.

On another note, I lived in Freeman my freshman and sophmore year and never ran into ghosts but I did hear of a story about a student that snuck into the attic of barton and hung himself and people didn't find him for days and now he haunts the place.

Yea, it's gotta be referring to the same place we've been discussing... The structure does slightly resemble a lighthouse.

I dont know if thats true, but it did happen alot. I think the years I was there some kid jumped out a window after losing at monopoly or something, hit his head on the dumpster below and died.

That reminders me of the guy who tried to commit suicide, a couple year back, by jumping off the east parking ramp. He broke a leg and after it was healed he tried jumping off it again.

suicide attempts and suicides are terrible things. one of my friends from high school committed suicide about a year ago and it really effects a lot of people. it is to bad the guy didn't get help after the first attempt.

People like the parking ramp guy are doing it to get attention. It is sad and he should have got help, but you don't jump from a second story onto soft ground if you really want to commit suicide- I know some people who do it for fun. The fact that he hardly hurt himself and still went back to the exact same spot, tells you about his intention.
