Overreaction by CF, again. He's the voice of the fricken Panthers.

Same with Jon Miller saying Iowa could go 9-3 in the Big 12 in football.

Sometimes "the voice" makes bold predictions on things that are actually never going to happen.

Yes but it also means Rima and Miller have no credibility. Walters doesn't spit nonsense about other teams ISU doesn't play all the time so people think of him as a grown up and not a punch line.

I'm sure all 7 UNI fans agree with him.

This is why I can't stand mid majors. It's just cluelessness at it's finest. They play no one, they beat no one, no one gives a **** - deal with it.

Rima expounding on UNI's excellence is like my eight year old kid telling me all about his latest Minecraft world.

Not sure it is relevant here in the real world.

Troll on Gary Rima, troll on. Maybe he should help UNI focus on selling tickets to their little gym first.

UNI will likely play 4 teams (3 to date) in the RPI Top 50 for the entire season. ISU has played 10 to date and will play 15 before the conference tournament. I guess its pretty easy when you have to play well and get up for 1 game every 8 compared to one game every 2.

To be fair UNI could beat KU and OU on a given night.

Maybe, but to be fair ISU *could* beat Kentucky on any given night.

In a vacuum UNI may be able to compete with a B12 team here and there, and maybe get some wins on the road but could they do it against a full B12 slate? Have Tuttle get the crap pounded out of him by Spangler, Gathers, Gipson, and Goggles and then try to bounce back and match up against skill sets like Ellis or Nash. Let their guards match up with Staten, Mason, or Foster one day then bounce back and figure out how to keep Hield or Forte from dropping 25 on them.

UNI is flying high and I get that this is a homer drinking the cool aid. That said, an objective person should be able to step back and realize that the venues are tougher, the scouting is more difficult and the talent and physicality are a step above the world they're living in. I just don't think Rima or anybody else that says something like this appreciates the grind of a B12 season. Am I too sensitive to crap like this? Probably, but when you realize that most of these UNI fans that are crawling out of the woodwork are Iowa fans that dug out their pullovers from when they were an undergrad at UNI, you should be able to understand why.

Assume they have 2 more games against WSU, the KU of MVCland.

The best mid majors are always loud and noisy. In all sports. The frustration of being a mid major. Understandable.

point me in the direction of John Walters doing something like that.

KU has lost 9 times in Phog Allen over the last decade so it makes perfect sense that UNI would win there. I mean, Bill Self has more conference championships than home losses, so like, duh.

As a UNI alum, I love Gary Rima. He's passionate about the University and UNI is fortunate to have him. As a Cyclone fan, I think he's over stepping his bounds, but that is also the business he's in. Rima's trying to get clicks and tweets about UNI which is great.
He's like a little old dog that chewed your pillow.. Pat him on the head and tell him to go to his kennel..

We see how UNI does in the Big12, remember when we hired McDoormat - that is what UNI would look like if they played KU or OU.

To be fair, I never even said John Walters. Two posters put that name in my mouth.

But to show that "the voice" makes bold predictions...well, please read. This was in an interview with CW May 20th, 2013.

When you start talking about player development, you start looking at guys – Iowa State has seven guys getting NFL opportunities right now that were seniors on last year’s Liberty Bowl team. Seven guys! Go back and look and see how many stars were next to those names when they were recruited. Not a lot in many cases. So obviously Paul is doing something really well in player development. To me, it is hard to just look at a small picture with our football program because I feel like I am always looking at it big picture. I think that is what Paul does. Everything that he does is focused on getting the program better every single day. It is hard to just say this specific has to happen or this specific. His broader view is what is making the program better every year. It is why he was able to redshirt an entire class. It is why you can lose seven guys who were really good players who are getting NFL opportunities and still feel like the program is in better shape than it has ever been. It is because of Paul.
Obviously they want to be a better offensive football team. I think that they took a step in that direction last year but I think they can take a bigger step in that direction this year. Defensively, they are going to have a lot of young guys out there and that is a challenge. But if they are going to have that be the case I can’t imagine a better guy to be in charge of that than Wally Burnham. I will never underestimate that guy, just like we talked about with Bill Self. I will never underestimate Wally Burnham. He is going to have some young players but he will have them ready.

This Gary Rima must be desperate for attention and listeners for his radio show. Making dumb controversial statements is one way to get more attention I guess. Really sad.

Sorry, but I don't see how that's in the same realm as what Rima is saying. He's saying he felt good about the job PR and Wally were doing with player development. The wheels have come off since but at that time being optimistic about our football program wasn't that out of vogue. Did I miss a quote in there somewhere where JW said we would go to Alabama or LSU and win?

Walters is a pro. Rima uses the word Kaboom on a regular basis and is just stirring the pot here. I'm sure his mission of getting some clicks and maybe some airtime on the Iowa radio airwaves has been successful. Good for him.

This thread is like the oldest child throwing a tantrum that his parents are giving the little brother more attention.

UNI is another school in Iowa (surprise) and they are playing good basketball. They are going to make the tourney and represent out state in doing so. Enough of this butthurt wah-wah nonsense. Enjoy OUR team, and let them enjoy theirs.

Rima on KXNO right now

He's re-enacting his call from the UNI-KU March Madness game in 2010

I wish I was joking

Dave Z does a great impression, but it was obviously Dave. The only reason I knew it was not Rima is because Heather asked him to do an impression a few weeks ago, and it was very lack luster.
