Re: My issue with our loss to UNI

Yes it is flawed because UNI has had much more stability(starting when Greg Mcdermott came to Cedar Falls) then ISU over the last 7 years. Nowhere near the player defections we have and a system that has basically been unchanged the whole time and players are used to. They're 7 years into their system where we're in year 2.

Re: My issue with our loss to UNI

I'll be honest I don't follow UNI at all. Did they lose players when Mac came to ISU? or did this keep everyone?
If they kept everyone I'm not surprised that they are still doing well. Like khaal53 said, the system is in place and they are still working with it.

I have watched Eric Coleman for 4 years. He is 6'-6. No way Jiri or Craig should not be able to score on him. Coleman is not Shaq O'Neal.

Bingo. I totally agree with this. ISU's program has seen more turnover in the last two years than perhaps any from the BCS leagues...and most all of that has not been GMac's fault.

Problem is that Coleman zapped their aggressiveness from them early in the game with those flops that drew offensive fouls. He got Jiri into foul trouble early and it kept him from going harder to the hoop.

Bottom line is the players do not know each other well enough.

Re: Positives and negatives

Good News - I like the line up of Brackins, Garrett, Jiri, Wes, and Rashon.
Bad News - They will need an occasional rest.
Good News - The rest can be short.

Re: My issue with our loss to UNI

I never have been a basketball guy, more into wrestling. I love watching us win though.

Anyways, I realize we lost to UNI, and its our coach's second year into this program, and that is means for accepting tough losses. But UNI coach is theoretically in his second year coaching his team. I find that sets us on equal levels and the more talented team would win.

Is this flawed thinking?

well, UNI did have talent when mcD left where as all of our players left when morgan did for the most part and they weren't great anyway. That said, I feel your pain. Losing to schools with less resources is SOOOOOOOOO painful for me. I know things don't happen automatically but when last years guys virtually disappear save 1 or 2 and we start over AGAIN it gets really frustrating.

What I don't understand is Jiri has been around a long time...why is he not doing this to people. Isn't experience worth anything??? And don't tell me new system crap because he played in the system last year and some things aren't system based they are talent and experience based. He should be putting some of the guys he plays against into early foul trouble not vice versa. It is not the injury.

Out of the UNI team that just came into Hilton and beat us tonight...only Lucas O'Rear, and Jon Montgomery were not recruited by McDermott. Every single other player that played committed to the Panthers to play for McDermott.

Jiri doesn't have a high basketball IQ. He has some talent, but is completely lost sometimes. He confuses me more than anyone on the team. He looks really good for a couple minutes and then looks like a freshman the next two.

Yeah, why can't he turn into a big Manu Ginobelli?

Aside from not playing well

Did anybody, who went to the game, think there could not have been 2 worse places in the game for UNI to BANK 2 threes in.

Took the crowd and sadly the players right out of the game.

Men's Basketball

As dissappointing as last night was (this is not one of the better UNI teams), I'm still optimistic about the future of Clone basketball. I wasn't too happy about Morgan getting canned, I thought he deserved another year, especially since he had 4 post season wins and 4 wins over top ten teams in his only 3 years. I remember two years ago when Clark went off on Drake at the Knapp Center on our way to the Big 4 state title. When you dismiss a coach like Morgan who is a good recruiter and popular with his players, you risk losing some of those players and recruits, which is what happened. It's not G-Mac's fault, but because of the defections he has had to rebuild now and it's not a lot of fun watching it. I do think G-Mac is a good coach, but fans are going to have to be patient. What's happening now could have been expected and we're probably a couple of years away from having a pretty good team.

How high is the MBB recruiting class rated anyway? I think we've been top 15, top 30, top 40 in the recent past.
