Looks like I might get to see my first Hurricane. Gonna get the outside scraps I think on Thursday afternoon here on the SC coast. Any of you weather gurus wanna post some things? Is my 4th of July gonna be ruined?

Sell everything you own and buy as much land near Charlotte as you can. It will be oceanfront property by next week.

Unless it makes a hard left turn into South Carolina, prepare to be underwhelmed. I went through a couple of tropical storms in New Orleans and it wasn't all that impressive. You can get some impressively heavy rainfall amounts though and at impressive rates (I saw 3" an hour in New Orleans a couple of times and it's nutty.)

We saw 3" an hour all the hell over Iowa last night...and tornadoes, and 70 MPH straightline winds.

Sorry...grumpy after sandbagging.

You'll see some chop on the ocean and probably some storm surge, but generally less than 3'. But like someone else said, it's not going to be too bad. It's not making landfall and the outer bands that do will be working back against storm movement (ie: weak side of the hurricane) Winds will be lucky if they peak at 60 mph.

Even the heaviest rain will stay off shore.

Ah, but weather channel wants the ratings. Will the guy be standing on the beach talking?

Went through a tropical storm last year in Florida. It's like a really bad thunderstorm that lasts for about 5 hours. It is crazy how much palm trees can bend!!! The island my parents house is on got flooded for awhile and the Storm surge was up over their dock. It wasn't overly bad but not sure I would want to ride out a hurricane if that was just a tropical storm.

We were back swimming later that day and back out in the boat the next day. Craziest part of the storm was the number of sharks that were close to dock due to storm surge. Son tried catching one with his Zebco 33, that fight lasted about 2 seconds.

The stuff they do is pure comedy. I can't remember which storm it was, but I remember one of their guys (wasn't Cantore) standing on a beach, with his Weather Channel jacket zipped all the way up, hood over his head, holding on to a fence post, looking like he's in serious pain. Up come 3 kids who may have been 12, wearing board shorts, and their hair is barely moving. The WC guy then gets upset because some kids jumped into his shot. The audacity

I've been in or near a couple of them and yeah, more than a few of them seem like much ado about nothing.

Get in one like Camille however and you'd swear the world was coming to an end.

As someone who lived in South Carolina for 15 years, you don't have a whole lot to worry about. Pay attention to the weather warnings, but unless the weather service/state says to board up and get out you don't need to worry. In terms of your 4th, it will be rainy but its a long weekend. Probably will be sunny by Friday/Saturday again.
