We got CC and we have a shot a HB.

OK, and we'll see what happens with CC next year. Or will it be, we're a young team again and again. As long as we can say we have recruits coming in for next year, and don't downplay them next year, I'm on board with it.

I'll give him next year--and I hope he wins. I really like the guy outside of what I see on the court. If he could get it right on the court, he's everything anyone would want in a MBB coach.

I remember when we got excited about Recruits that were going to be on the court next season, who had signed with us. We had recruiting classes ranked in the top 20 every year. Now we are suppose to get excited that we might sign a player who might be here in two years.

Stop trying to inject reason into an emotional coversation!:jimlad: All coaches must play in the post season in year 3 regardless of circumstances, and if not, we throw them in the trash heap and start all over again!:jimlad: Haven't you heard- in today's society everything must be now now now:yes:

See, I don't think anyone thinks he's gotta get into the post season. But we're seeing nothing that even begins to look like progress out of his teams. This team does not play better than his first year's team. Players are not improving in his system. You could give Brackins 10 years of eligibility in this system, and I'd venture to say that he would still be scared to go to the hoop, fade away on every basket, and get pushed around by every defender that gets put on him.

Our team isn't improving, and our players are floundering.

History means very little in this case. You can't win games with history. You need players. And as another poster pointed out, ISU is lacking a big man right now to complement Brackins. Hopefully help is on the way next year in the form of Gilstrap and L.A. Pomlee and a bigger Hamilton. Let's not forget that our only 3 seniors are 2 walkons and a transfer that no one really wanted other than ISU.

I don't think any of us expected much this year after the loss of Wesley Johnson, Jiri Hubalek and Rahshon Clark. But next year everyone has a right to expect drastic improvement. Let's wait and see if that happens because there's nothing anyone can do to improve the talent on this year's team.

Yep...you need players and it is the HC's job to get them. Why are so many Cyclone fans always waiting for next year or willing to rationalize away this year because we lost so much from last year. Do you think the typical KU fan is giving up on this season and waiting for the unproven recruits that are coming in next year? Do you think the typical KU fan is not expecting much this year because they lost so much from last year's team? The answer to both questions is NO. As I have said before...PATIENCE IS THE CRUTCH OF THE LOSER!

The orginal poster provided some much needed perspective. The people that are shouting on here about McDermott sound an awful lot like the people that were shouting on CycloneReport about Wayne Morgan. And much to my dismay at the time, Jamie Pollard seemed to listen to all the Morgan-bashers. Maybe there was more to the D1 Scheduling issue (I hope so), and Jamie had a really good reason to fire Morgan. Otherwise, firing a coach after his 3rd season is a very stupid thing to do. Haven't we all learned that by now?

The players were running the team under Morgan. There were players on that team that Morgan didn't remember their first name. The SID had to plant random SARS scares in the basketball offices to get the coaches to come out to meet the media. Morgan was not fired for on-the-court performance, he was fired for exactly the reason they gave: he wasn't taking the team in a good direction.

So, if the people that are saying they want McD fired sound like the people shouting about Wayne Morgan, than they probably have good reason to be, because the same sorts of problems are showing up.

Players are not getting better. That is a problem. The team is not getting better from year to year. Again, that is a problem. The entire program defected to somewhere else, and McD has failed to keep kids here. This is a big problem; it's hard to build a program when you're having to rebuild year.

I'm not calling for McD's head. In my heart of hearts, I'm hoping SDSU ends up being this team's SJSU. But I really do understand the concern. Iowa State's never been a powerhouse at any sport that isn't wrestling, but basketball we at least had a good two decade tradition. It's floundering now, and that, again, is a problem.

I will admit that I didn't like the firing of Wayne Morgan and the hiring of Greg from the get go. However, I feel like I've been honest with my opinions of him. I give him credit when credit is due. That may be few and far between however.

A "rec center" crowd that impressed a former member of the faculty at Duke for how loud and excited it got near the end of the game. And a pretty dang good crowd for the time of year with the threat of snow looming over the area.

Hated isn't the right word, and "tear him down" isn't the right phrase. I thought he was a poor choice for coach, and I haven't been convinced I'm wrong yet.

Comparing Orr's first few years to GMAC is about as good as comparing McCarney's to Chizik's (and now to an even lesser extent Rhoads').

Cyclone fans want coaches to commit to them for 5 or 6 years but Cyclone fans are not willing to commit to the coaches ISU hires for the same amount of time. What is the difference between GC leaving after two years and cyclone fans turning on GMAC after 2 years and 11 games?

Awesome post. I owe you rep when I can give some again.

Yeah, I guess signing four-star, incredibly athletic recruits wouldn't "help his cause". :jimlad:

Alford did the same thing. It's what kept him in a job for so long. A recruit loses his stars the minute he steps on the court, and so far, we've done almost nothing with the talent that we've brought in.

And now is where I give credit where credit is due: BP doesn't look as lost on offense anymore. Heck, I sometimes yell for him to bring the ball up the court in key situations. DG is under control a lot more than he was last year, and I'm not normally scared when he touches the ball. LS has shown marked improvement between this time last year and this year. And Sean Haluska. Dear lord, if any of you had a chance to watch Sean in High School, where his idea of defense was to step out of their way so he could go down the court and shoot some more..... he's been the brightest spot of hope I've seen from this coaching staff.

I don't want McD's head on a platter. He deserves at least this year and probably next to show improvement, but he's at the end of his rope. Had we seen marked improvement from year one to year two, and from year two to this year, he would have gotten a lot longer leash, but since we've floundered with no real signs of life, he's going to have to pull out a spectacular win here or a surprise run in an NIT or NCAA there.
