Re: Herman to Ohio State?

Personal guarantee, huh? Good call on that one.

You didn't read the restrictions!

Even so, it just doesn't pass the smell test. Can you name the last BCS OC (from a good program, not a "hot seat") that took a QB coaching job?

come on guys...dont trust a new poster?

Footballscoop a little late. Herman was on the road today recruiting and got the call from Urban Meyer. It all went down around 2pm CST.

This is makes no sense to me. Only way its completely not ******** to me is if Rhoads "nudged" him out, and even then that would be a stupid move by Rhoads.

This looks horrible for ISU.

because this is front-page news on sportscenter that everyone will see

No it doesn't. Do you really think people around the country are going to notice?

Re: Herman to Ohio State?

Well, I think it says more about his confidence as a coach, imo. If I were interviewing, my first question would be, "Why did you take that demotion back in '11? Seems like you guys were on the right track in a tough place to win, yet you left to take a demotion?"

In the end, it's probably better that he left now, while JB is still young and we have some younger receivers rather than doing this next year. I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but if anyone wants to review my posts, I was never overly impressed with what he was doing here. And questioned on many ocassions weather or not he was right for this job. Next year is a "Could have been" now, which we'll never know. But personally, I don't think he'll be missed all that much.

He might think the demotion is a quicker route to a quality head coaching job. Is it really hard to think that OSU QB coach - OSU OC - good head coaching job would allow him to reach his ideal destination faster than ISU OC - low level head coaching job - good head coaching job?

Are you serious? Herman has underperformed since he has been here. His love of the slant call on 3rd down has cost ISU time and time again. Your quarterback can only scramble for so many first downs.

I hope Steve Loney comes back to Ames. He is the one great coordinator ISU has had on offense. Hoener had a good couple of years tood.

Not sure if Loney is still in the pros.

Re: Herman to Ohio State?

You can dwell all you want on ppg this year, but the problem was TO's. You can put some of that blame on him but not all by a long shot, and over the second half of the season we were much improved in that category.

any other short sighted questions?

My questions weren't short sighted. However your proposition that ISU's problem was TO's is. Three-and-outs aren't caused by turnovers. Hopefully next year, ISU will have an OC who doesn't compress the field to within 25 yds of the line of scrimmage. It should do wonders.

So what? Like I asked before, what is it about Herman's performance at ISU that makes this some crushing blow? PR will find a talented replacement.

Exactly and bottom line is we lost a coach to a really good program led by one of the greatest college coaches ever. If he had quit to take a high school coaching job or FCS assistant job, that would have looked bad, leaving for Ohio St does not.

No I can't, but you were extremely confident that he would not go to OSU. In fact, you guaranteed it, as if you actually knew something. Instead, you were just another poster who claimed to know more than you actually do, and you were proven wrong.

Interesting, something seems fishy here. Or at least doesn't make a ton of sense.

I don't think it's that hard to imagine, no, but I can't help but get the idea out of my head, as an interviewer, of, "Too tough for you there eh?" I might feel different about it if we were blowing up the scoring charts the last couple of years and he took the job at OSU because he wasn't getting any offers, but I see this more as a, "Not getting the job done, get while the gettin's good"

I don't think it looks horrible at all. We obviously have to make the right hire to keep current commitments and maintain any recruiting momentum on the offensive side of the ball.

My vote would be to hire Scott Frost, wr coach at Oregon. Midwest ties, knows Chip Kelly's spread inside and out. Great recruiter.
Definite Bump. Do want

I'm not saying losing Herman is terrible, but it just looks bad to an outsider.

After the Missouri and Texas A&M games, some people wanted a new offensive coordinator. Well, here ya go.
