To Wii or not to Wii...

My 5 year old beat me at bowling the other night on Wii sports. I bowled a 197 she bowled a 211. Last Christmas my daughter played my 81 year old grandfather on the Wii as well. People who never play video games love it and want to come over and play. Boxing was a huge hit at our New Years party last year especially after the drink were flowing. Downloading the games we grew up on is great too.

As for the novelty. We have had it for almost a year and it hasn't worn off yet. Fun for any ages unless you are the type who complains when the AI's hair isn't laying quite right as the corpse lays in a pool of it's own blood. If you are that hard core of a gamer stick to the other systems.

The Wii is deep enough for experienced gamers and simple enough for any age. Watching my dad bowl with my 4 year old son was pretty funny. He hasn't touched a video game since he brought us home an Atari 5200 when he was around my age.

My son can also navigate through the menus by himself, he can't read them but with pictures and graphics he doesn't need to. When we got the Wii we made him his own Mii. Nothing fancy, just a little kid in a stocking cap. He found the Mii Channel and managed to edit his own Mii. His Mii is now tall with a goatee and sunglasses, standard coffee house type. He asked me if he was "cool". I was astonished, impressed, and could NOT stop laughing.

For a great arm workout, try Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. It's a joint buster.

My brother camped out for one last year and I've got to say it's a lot of fun. If you can get over the fact that you will look like an absolute idiot playing at times (if that bothers you at all) it might be one of the most fun multiplayer consoles out there. My parents have a couple of pictures of the two of us playing the boxing game and we are both up on our toes, ducking, juking, and sweating. It's an incredible amount of fun because it really puts most people on a level playing field. No need to have incredibly good aim or incredible button mashing speed. A lot of fun for all parties involved

Although good luck finding one. I still have yet to see any sitting on the store shelves anywhere.

I think you will be able to find them soon enough. This demand probably will not last past the holiday season, so you can start to find them after xmas. It is like the ps3 last winter, you could not find them at all before xmas, and in jan, they were always on the shelf at target.

Shopko last sunday said in the ad that they would have 10 that go on sale at 7am. Places usually get around that much on shipping day. Best chance is to find out what day they get their stock and hit it hard.

I would definitely recommend the Wii especially for kids. It will at least get them off of the couch moving around. The Wii is also great entertainment for adults as well.

Wii's are a blast, no doubt about it. I would love to have a PS3, but for anyone who doesn't have or want to spend multiple hours working on games (or have $500) and wants something that's accessible and fun for anyone, plus a better deal that the other two consoles, then the Wii is king.

This is the perfect system for me. I played the NES and SNES when I was younger and loved it but never really adopted any of the newer systems. When I would play games on the Xbox or PS2 I would struggle because I was used to simple controls so I kind of just ignored video games for a few years. I played Super Mario Galaxy over the weekend just to see if it was something that I would like and I LOVED it. The game was super fun, easy to control, and just challenging enough to keep everyone entertained. The Zelda game for it is great as well. I tried Tiger Woods on it but I felt like I was just screwing up my regular golf swing so I stopped playing that.

If you can afford a PS3, I would get that. However, the Wii is fun and much cheaper. It is definitely not a novelty, considering there are probably at least 10X more Wii systems in homes than PS3 systems. They have been in high demand for over a year now. PS3 was hard to find near christmas last year, but available after. Wii has been hard to find since before christmas last year, and all throughout the year. It will be nearly impossible to find one before Christmas this year.
