Tips on how not to get arrested:

Do not drink everclear.

Also, if you're drunk don't walk home alone. Those are the people the cops look out for. I've never known of anyone who's gotten a public intox while walking home with friends

The thing that's driving me the craziest is knowing that football is still 6 weeks away.

I beat Iowa in a nail-biter finish in NCAA Football 12 yesterday in my ISU dynasty and realized that game isn't for another 50 days. What a downer.

A girl, friend of mine (not girlfriend), was walking with me, as I was walking her home, and they gave her one, and not me. Trust me I had my share of alcohol that night as well.

Jealous, why would I be jealous of something I had no intent on being a part of.:skeptical:

Also, I have many stories of what is wrong with the uppity greek system.

Someone can't understand the pirate...Funny you say the greek system is uppity, but your previous post shows some irony.

It's okay if you have problems with the greek system, but go ahead and let your opinion make you judge the rest...

Its not for everyone, and thats okay if you don't like it. But to openly hate on something you only know so much on the surface is stupid.

Wrong, to openly accept something, and pick your friends off one weekend is stupid.

I had quite a few friends in the greek system. I even went to a few of thier parties the first couple of weeks. But I met more bad apples than I ever did that weren't a part of the frat system. So to say I knew nothing about it is ignorant. I came into it with an open mind, but formed my opinion after I checked it out. Then spent the next five years solidifing that decision.

Well it's ignorant of yourself to judge the whole system just based off your opinion and be vocal about it. There's always going to be guys/houses that give bad impressions, but things do change. But this isn't the thread for this.

I think this is the thread for this, because I will let the Freshman in the other thread make his own desicion.

I'm not judging the whole system. They do go things. I just don't agree with most of the behavior out of a lot of them that I met. Not saying there aren't some good ones. Like I said, I had some friends that were members.

However, slipping date rape drugs in girls drinks, I will never consider acceptable. And before your rebutal, I'm sure non frat guys did that too, but I've never met any, and I've met a lot more of them.

And I agree, that happening is not acceptable. And someone who has been greek for awhile, and out of house. I've never seen any type of that behavior ever. And I've been to many parties, etc.

My cousin was in a frat at ISU (delta tau delta) and just loved it.
My roommate was also in a frat for 1 semester and hated it.
My sister was in a sorority and she thought it was okay.

Hope this helps!

I've had 2 such experiences where I ran into this type of behavior, and one time when a non-frat member friend of mine got his tooth knocked out because of a misunderstanding where he was trying to just find his girlfriend that had just called him. Well he didn't have an invite, and he was waiting on their lawn, so 10 on 2, let's fight.

I'm not saying that everyone is a bad person that was a part of the system. I'm not saying that you were a bad person for being a part of one. I'm just saying that I've had experiences that lead me to be vocal about my opinion for the system. Not all people that join one are bad, not all people that don't join one are good. But I think I'm entitled to my opinion, and I had just as many friends that I could choose without joining one.

This is true. I rarely walked home alone. But when I got my public intox, I was.

It's really a horrible law with insanely arbitrary enforcement. If the police wanted, they could stand outside of Jack Trice or Kinnick on a fall saturday and arrest about half the people going into the game. Public intox should cease to exist, and instead, if someone's being an ***, arrest them for disturbing the peace, or something like that.

Of all the people I know who've gotten public intoxs, about half of them deserved it (were acting out/disturbing the peace), and the other half were just walking home alone.

You watch too many movies and Dateline. Iowa's Greek system is about the only one that fits into that stereotype and it is slowly dwindling with the new laws put in place regarding bar age. I considered the Greek community to be the largest networking community on campus. I think fraternities and sororities are a lot alike in that you are only going to get out of them what you put into them. If you go in thinking it is just going to be party non-stop, you are probably going to join a frat that is going to bring you down as a person and a student. If you go in looking to meet people and with an open mind, you may just join a fraternity that could change your life. Thats just my experience.
