Some lesser known(Minus Petrucci) players that I love.

Nick Johnston

Jakeb Zytecki w/ Disperse

Monte Montgomery

John Petrucci

Mark Holcomb w/ Periphery solo at 9:30
Fun fact Holcomb is John Petrucci's nephew.

Petrucci is great but I prefer Ty Tabor of Kings X of the 90s prof guys. Maybe because I liked Kings X as a band and didn't like Dream Theater. Also,if you can find one, the Tabor signature Yamaha was a great guitar. Used to have one about 15 years ago but sold it with the intent of getting the baritone version but couldn't find one.

I just ordered my new guitar from Warmoth. So excited. A-symetrical neck profile, 24 jumbo frets, birds eye maple fret board, koa laminent top, alder back, with jeff beck vintage noiseless hot pick ups. Strat body style. So excited to see this baby.

I agree Petrucci is good but he's not my favorite. I like Tosin Abasi for that style right now.

Sounds incredible. Need to post pics of your custom in this thread when you get it.

How bout some Steve Lukather

He’s responsible for many of the Most iconic solos from the early eighties thru early ninties.

This is awesome. That two beat bass line with the jazz chord progressions is very difficult to master. Then the crazy false harmonics he pulls off, some really cool techniques I haven't seen before.

Gilmour is my absolute favorite dude. Fat Old Sun you’re supposed to hear the sun rising in the solo. This performance from mid 90’s is also phenomenal.

I bought SY Goo when it came out in 1990 (I was a HS Freshman) and wanted to be Thurston Moore when I grew up. I presume you have or have heard his solo album Psychic Hearts (1995). It just totally blew me away.
Psychic Hearts is great! Still have my original LP.

Ya Gilmour is probably my favorite too. He isn't all that daunting when it comes to his speed or scale craft, but his note choice and tone is pretty much untouchable. I love his Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD. Probably my favorite concert I've seen.

Gilmour is able to convey the feeling and emotion behind a song through a guitar solo like no one else imo.

No mention of George Lynch yet. Love the guitars he used with Dokken. Dude can shred! Will also give a shout out to Nancy Wilson and Lita Ford as women that can bring it also.

Great thread. Love all the posts.

Mine is not an artist, but the single best guitar day in my life.

May have a friend with a bootleg recording of the entire event.

Kyle Gass is a pretty impressive guitar player. Here he is in Jack's dream in The Pick of destiny. The guitar solo on the triple neck guitar is a thing of beauty. Not for young eyes or ears.

Also, I have been waiting 16 years for his book about the asparagus children. I am starting to think it wont happen.
