White supremacist accounts AND the accounts of some of the biggest advertisers on Twitter.

If you only follow a few accounts, and that's your mix, I suppose it's pretty easy to see those things together.
What protections were in place that Twitter claims would protect big companies from this happening? This seems like the exact test I would use as a developer for those protections.

They set out to achieve a goal (scare advertisers away from the platform), and used a very unusual and specific setup to do it.

Its not unusual at all.

To see if advertisers ads would end up near hateful speech, one would have to set up the experimental conditions such that hateful speech appeared in the first place and see what happened next.

The acceptable amount for that to occur for most advertisers is zero by the way.

And hate speech has exploded since Elon took over, changed the policies, and gutted the moderation that would weed a lot of that out. So when you take those two things together, advertisers can do the math and see that advertising on the platform puts them alongside a lot of garbage content.

Uh huh, racists and brands. Hardly unique to Twitter as you continually try to frame it.

I saw someone who doesn't hate capitalism and free markets describe it very well like this:

Imagine you own a billboard company.

You encourage anybody to spray paint diçks on your billboards for an $8 monthly fee.

Then you act shocked that your billboard sales go down because it's a free market and these advertisers don't want diçks spray painted on or near their billboards and they see you encouraging all this diçk graffiti.

And I'd imagine a good number of brands that already cut their advertising did similar tests internally.

Nobody "set up" Elon forcing him to frequently hang out with literal Nazis all day and help them in their attacks against random Americans.

The guy is doing it to himself 100%. This is who he is. He was the richest man in the world and blew 44 billion to be king mod of white supremacists. It's how he chose to spend part of his fortune.

Other than the obvious reasons we can't discuss in this thread I'm really struggling to see the POV where Twitter is nearly/completely blameless for posting ads next to white supremacist accounts.

Is it just the word algorithm that has people's head spinning on this one? Do people really think that a company is not responsible for what their algorithm does?

This is 100% on the advertisers. They should have checked the little box that opts out their ads appearing next to white supremacist and antisemitic content. Read the fine print!

Your ads will only appear next to racist/antisemitic posts if someone were to follow certain accounts, but that will never happen because it's very unusual and ILLEGAL.

Not really surprising with his family history in South Africa.

Yes, exactly. And lead Nazi Elon helped them target someone that had absolutely nothing to do with any of it. The guy they targeted had the same amount of connection as you and your perfect X feed, nothing.
You need to take a break from social. Being serious. You’re this upset towards me over something that has nothing to do with me or you. You hate Elon cool so don’t a lot of people but letting it have this kind of grip on you isn’t healthy.

Edit: just letting you know calling some Nazi over and over again eventually makes it lose the true substance of the word if it isn’t actually accurate. Do you truly believe Elon is a nazi?
