I think it will be a nice advantage for someone like Monte Morris this year. He definitely showed me that he has skills at the point position, but being still a freshman and small, it will allow him to get more playing time and experience if he's not allowed to be hand checked by bigger, older and more physical players such as Marcus Smart at OSU.

I think in the long run it will be beneficial, but this year it is going to suck. I was at the Iowa game yesterday and it was pretty brutal to the point where it felt like you couldnt breathe on the ball handler. I was in the front row and yelling at the head ref Pat Driscoll who does a lot of big ten games, and at one point I said "We came here to watch basketball" and he turns around and says "Me too, these rules suck, its like getting a parking ticket on campus for doing nothing wrong". Interesting to hear a veteran big ten guy feel that way.

I find your story highly suspect. Any ref who would talk this way about the rules to the crowd during a game has no business officiating Division I basketball.

Are you sure you didn't embellish this just a little bit?

Does this rule apply to Kansas?

Don’t hold your breath on this rule change leveling out the inconsistencies in officiating between the royalty and commoners in college basketball.

I loved Kane's quote in the postgame:

"If you want to foul out, you use hands."

Guaranteed this is coming straight from CFH. Glad the guys are getting it.

So I realize that this thread is mostly concerned with the hand checking rule change, but the change to the charging call could be helpful to ISU more this year than last (a few notable exceptions aside). Kane is clearly more of a slasher than a shooter. Between the hand checking change and the charging change, he's going to be hard to stop and get a ton of free throws. Same goes for Hogue, though to a lesser extent.

I think in the long run it will be good for us, given Fred's style of offensive basketball. It should eventually make games funner to watch too, which is a good thing.

It will be bad for coaches like Bob Huggins who really like to play physical and ugly up a game.

Maybe, but hopefully games don't end up like Iowa in the second half two years ago. That was almost unwatchable and I've been to shorter overtime games.

Once a game between two "heavyweights" becomes a three hour long free throw contest, this will go away.

Did you catch the quote from the esteemed coach Larry E.?

Something about when you go to see Celine Dion, she comes back after intermission.

Nobody wants to see the scrubs play the scrubs.
