It is on Fred that we didn't foul up 3 with 10 seconds remaining. But it's also on Lucious for missing the front end of the 1-and-1, Niang for fouling out, Babb and Lucious for not hitting just one more 3, and everyone on the floor with 10 seconds left for forgetting how to play defense, allowing the 3 pointer to be shot openly.

Conversely, it is also on Fred for coming up with a gameplan that had us within 2 seconds of beating KU on their court, which wod have snapped countless streaks in the process, Niang for being the first freshman since who knows when that wasn't intimidated by the Phog and had one hell of a game, Lucious and Babb for being straight up freaks last night, and the defense making KU look bad much of the evening, especially during the second half drought.
KU simply doesn't lose on its home court, and it was going to take a perfect game to do so. They played a near-perfect game and that was ultimately the difference.

I know a lot of people don't believe in moral victories - you either won or lost and the discussion ends there. That simply isn't the case in college basketball, especially taking KU to overtime on the road. The selection committee gives far too much credit to quality losses to just completely discount moral victories. Granted, winning at KU would have done much more for tournament respect, but last night will go a long way to getting us in the tournament and increasing our seed.

Yep, he could have fouled with 8 secs, KU makes both throws, down 1, steals ball on inbounds, makes easy layup and then win in regulation.

I would have preferred Babb/McGee defending that last screen by going over the top and not under giving up an easy look at the basket for three but hey, feel free to blame a guy not on the court.

This is exactly right. Say we foul with 7 seconds left. All they need to do is sink BOTH free throws with the clock stopped and foul us instantly on the inbounds pass.

Now we're only up 1 with two insanely pressure packed free throws coming up, 6 seconds on the clock. Even if we make both free throws, we are right back where we started... up 3. Heaven forbid we miss one or both free throws. If we miss one we CANNOT foul and KU is getting the last shot to win instead of overtime.

The dude made a freaking banked three...

To say it is Fred's fault is unfair. You must also consider that he is the reason that the boys are even competing at such a high level in the first place. Hindsight is always 20/20, and looking back it seems as if he made a mistake.

To the geniuses who keep talking about a wide open three, what game were you watching? This is a thread about the ISU V KU game last night in Lawrence. Did you get the wrong thread?
