"Iowa State lost on Saturday. But, Iowa State won because they answered the bell over and over again on the field and in the coaching booth. The teams could not have been more even in effort, talent, and scheme. Overtime was fitting, but both teams and we the fans won yesterday."

**** that.

Good column Jay. People who are still pissed need to get over it.

Historically, when Iowa has lost this game in a heartbreaking fashion, they haven't let it define their season. Iowa State shouldn't either. There are 10 more games to go. I trust this staff to have the guys prepared and to make necessary adjustments. They will get the most out of the talent they have.

Good stuff. I'd only take issue with his point about Iowa's tackling. For the most part he's right, our guys are fundamentally solid. But a glaring exception is our SS Miles Taylor. He's a tough kid and a hustler, but a major liability in our DB. He blew a chance to force a big 4th down in the second half when he tried for a big hit and just bounced off of Montgomery instead of trying to wrap up and wait for help to get there. He's also the guy who tried tackling Montgomery by his helmet before he trucked Josey.

He does a great job explaining football in simple terms and finding new perpectives on the team.

We played a good game but didn't finish it out. We will learn from this game and get better. This was a Classic Game. I bleed Cardinal and Gold, but man, what a game. I see a team that is likely to use this as motivation to get to an even higher level. I am drinking the Koolaid for a bowl game.

I was just baffled that ISU did not use the option pitch play at the end of the game when they needed to get first downs. As far as I can recall they never really stopped Montgomery on that play all day. It is a nice safe play that stretches the defense and get the ball into the best players hands at full speed.

I'm not pissed. I'm very disappointed. What pisses me off is people telling me we still won or I should be happy to watch a good game.

We blew a very late lead in the most Iowa State fashion possible for the umpteenth time in my fandom. I'm over feeling good about games like this. WIN.

One of the very few pieces of in-depth analysis ever offered by anyone on this board. His commentary is more satisfying than "Campbell sucks" or "the refs cost us the game". He actually sounds like he knows football.

I'm not satisfied with the loss, but am satisfied the staff and players spent hundreds of hours since last year preparing to be better.

I hear you, 30+ years of this myself. At this point, we should probably all seek some counseling for why we're all still doing this. With that said, yesterday wasn't the end of the season. The rest of this year can be plenty intriguing, and perhaps even enjoyable. The super bad taste from another collapse can be washed away with an upset, or two, in conference and wins in games were "supposed" to get. I've been waiting a long time to see an Iowa State football team get better and stronger as the season goes on. This may be one team that does just that because of the coaching and emerging talent. My God, some conference wins would be nice for a change.

That interception was not a spectacular play IMO. Park threw it right to him

Just like Aaron Rogers threw a similar pass for a pick six today (called back for a inconsequential push in the back) It was a great play most lineman don't make. I would blame the o-line more for not having a body on the defender, although I haven't rewatched it yet to see if that was the case.
