She had nothing to do with Brian.
Hard to say if it was her call or came down from the president, but there is no doubt the president of the university had approved the firing. Freerents was planning on using their record at the end of the season to get his son another season, and she cut him off at the knees when she fired him with a couple of weeks left in the season.

With both coaches, its going to get worst before it gets better, and neither one is going to walk away and leave millions on the table.

WonderWoman will just to wait and see how long both MadFran and Capt Kirk want ride things out. I’m sure she wants both of them gone but doesn’t dare and can’t afford to fire them.
Yes, and I don't think Beth has any blame here. Barta saddled her with unworkable contracts on the two highest paid coaches in her AD as well as a big debt to the University. She has to tread very carefully at this point and effectively has her hands tied.

Iowa has a possible high 4 star recruit that might be committing to them on Thursday. Someone explain how he is going to pull a kid like that? It makes zero sense. It's not even a relative.

With what money? they owe the university 50M... then they're going to be around 8M to buy out Fran and assistants. THen, they have to buy out DeVries... the math ain't mathing.
All I am saying is what the buyout is. Not making any commentary on viability. I wanted to see what the actual buyout was.

Not sure if that is the case - finding the right fit and being a good locker room guy (see Niang) can keep you in hte league for a while.
I just look at the last crop of Valley guys that have made it and I consider Tucker more in that group.

Ben Sheppard-Elite Athlete/Late Bloomer
AJ Green-Elite Shooter
Malevey Leons-Great athlete/Elite Defender
Jonathan Mogbo-Elite Athlete

Tucker is VERY good but he's not the catch and shoot guy AJ is and I don't know who he guards at that level. Doesn't have the upper body strength at this point to overcome his slower feet like Niang does.

Could be totally wrong but that's my feel.

Reminds me of Weiskamp.

I am afraid he is done. I really would like to see them pull it together enough to make the tourney and get him another year or two as I think he could permanently run them into the ground.

Going to be very interesting to see who replaces him. Unless Devries really wants to be in Iowa, I think they are going to have to settle for a mid-major.
If Prohm's 2-22 season was followed up with a sweet sixteen the next year and BU can win a natty there is no such thing as permanent crappiness.

The fanbase just doesn't care enough about Iowa men's hoops to write the check. They care more about women's hoops at this point.

They are quickly not caring about either. Iowa fans are slowly figuring out that without a once in a lifetime type player Iowa isn't going to be what they had the last 2 years. The fact that the Bradster and Swarm are dumping a bunch of money into the women's program is pretty hilarious.

haha this is great. fans will get hyped on their "4 star" (who's basically a USF decommit visiting no where but Iowa), and Fran will for sure get another year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fran and Iowa rattle off a few wins here and it breathes some air back into the lungs of the season. I could honestly see them winning their next four, including beating Purdue and Wisconsin at home. That would certainly be a spark. The key for getting rid of Fran this year though is for the season to be a complete failure, and Iowa making the NIT and winning a game or two or even making the tournament would solidify another year.

I really don't see how Iowa would fire him after this year though. Again, if Iowa ends up winning zero or one more game, then I could see Beth possibly pulling the trigger, but Fran has not been bad enough to warrant getting canned.

Agreed, the only way EIU thinks about canning him would be if they go winless the rest of the season. They have too much offense for that to happen, they will win 3-5 games from this point out, and that will be enough, along with the cost of the buyout to give him at least one more season.

The university won’t let Goetz pay for Fran, plus his assistants, plus Devries, and his assistants when the department already owes so much from Covid. Besides, what are you selling to a prospective coach? There’s no NIL support, no fan support at this point. At best they’ll get a mid major coach- and even the good ones will pass on Iowa unless Goetz gets the green light to back up the Brinks truck (which isn’t gonna happen) or a donor personally foots the bill.

Yeah definitely agree. Some of the names being thrown around on the Iowa boards are pretty funny. "Bruce Pearl, although he seems to have a pretty good thing going down there." Like, what?? Lol
