My family enjoyed the band, especially the kids. I hope someone on this boards conveys this message to the band. It is sad that people attack in such a negative way, especially with it being a volunteer group. What is even more sad is they do not have anything better to do than complain about the band. Get a life-

I don't get this. If you don't enjoy the band, the watch the basketball game. Do you think they pep band and marching band enjoy dealing with drunk and obnoxious fans all the time? The band isn't there to entertain the student section. They're there to entertain the crowd. I was at the BYU game, sitting next to a little boy that was quite enjoying the band.

The threads like this are a good thing... People have to have something to complain about. If they are complaining about the band, it means the team is not bad, and they have to find something else to complain about. Usually it is the student attendance for the non-conference games, though I do remember CF getting on the pep-band drummer for being off beat with the 5 drum hits for opposing team introductions... I'm disappointed with our performance as a board regarding Cyclone Alley. We haven't complained nearly as much as we normally do, and I miss it. We're turning into our own Cyclone Alley, some self-perpetuating group of failure and mediocrity.

Come on, CF. Let's tear those students down! Well, the handful that bother to show up. Couldn't have been more than 2 or 3 anyway.

I like the band, but the pop songs need to stop. The Backstreet Boys and Carly Rae Jepsen should not be played. I think alternative (for lack of a better word) songs fit much better in the atmosphere. We already get beat over the head with Gangnam Style and other garbage from the speakers. We don't need the band to play the rest of the top 40. What happened to "Take On Me?"

Besides, not all Top 40 songs are good band songs. The truly great pep band songs, that we played in my high school pep band, were the Theme to Rocky, Final Countdown, Wipe Out, Proud Mary and the Hey Song.

How many times will they perform Tom Sawyer? You are in Memphis; home of the blues. You had over a month to prepare. Give us something new. Gees!

Ultimately, ISU Bands have been here before you and will be here long after you are gone.

Sorry dude, you are way too logical. Plus too many people hide behind a false name and say things they would never say if people knew who they were. It's too bad.

Having said that, and generally agreeing with you, adding a few more songs to the repertoire so we do not have to hear the fight song quite so often would be greatly appreciated.

As a student I directed the women's basketball pep band from '05-'06 season through '07-'08 season. I was also a member of the men's pep band for four years. The chants are a tradition from beyond my parents time. They were stupid then and they are stupid now, but they are a tradition. If you don't like them then be louder than them or put yourself in a position to get rid of them.

As for what the band plays when, it is mostly scripted. How much time we have at certain timeouts is a large factor what song is selected. There are also specific tunes that requested by the team or the AD. All of that is out of the bands hands. For example, when Lyndsey Medders, was on the women's team, she requested that Ants Marching be played pregame after they came back out and were doing lay-up drills.

As for expanding the repertoire, when I left in '08, the pep band book had over 130 tunes in it. As the season goes on and there are more rehearsals, more of those 130+ songs will be playable.

If the pep band is ruining your Cyclone basketball experience, then stay home watch it on TV.

Nice to see the band shape up recently. Have to give credit where credit is due
