I like it too, and it does help keep the crowd into the game....I even finished the phrase when the announcer either forgot or lost power....and the crowd participated very nicely. Go Clones. Clones cover, plus 7.

It beats the heck out of "That's another Cyclone three-and-out."

I guess I just don't understand the "it's high school or lower class football" arguement. In my mind, it's crowd participation and that's never a bad thing.

Jeff Johnson's bit at the beginning of the game crowd participation, isn't it? And everyone knows we all love that part of the pre-game atmosphere. :jimlad:

The crowd can't be noisy on it's own? The crowd isn't intellectual enough to know when it is a good time to cheer? Cheering for a 1st down? Embarrassing.
Should we not cheer for a first down? I thought those were good things.

That's almost worse than the video board showing players shaking key's for a key play....man just reminds me of a highschool game, or an NAIA game.

I thought the players would leave their keys in the locker room. Didn't the uni's had pockets....

Honestly, no. A large portion of the crowd will not be noisy at all without encouragement. I don't know if it is a result of our less than stellar football record or what, but a large portion of the stands seems to prefer sitting down and watching a nice quiet game.
The first down announcement may not be the most big time way to promote fan participation, but it works. It would be worse if they made the announcement and noone did a thing in response.
Maybe if we can build a more consistent winning tradition the fans will get excited without being prodded.
Heck, I get asked to sit down by fans around me at most games. This last game I stood and cheered more than anyone in our section (except my wife) and I was holding a sleeping five month old.

For those of you using the argument that it makes the crowd create noise... yes it does. But do we want our own fans making a bunch of noise when WE ARE ON OFFENSE??? NO!!!

I participate, but not when it looks like our offense is really hurrying, in crucial points of the game. When our offense is driving north towards the student section, it becomes even more of a problem because right after this chant, there is the "first down" song played by the band and "Go Cyclones!" chanted by the students 3 times.

Shhh! Save it for defense.

That's what the Wisconsin PA guy does every time they get a first down and then the whole stadium say "that's another Wisconsin First Down!" I don't like it, but if anyone ever gets a chance to go to a game in Camp Randall, do it!!! The atmosphere in and outside the stadium is unbelievable!!!!

Although I like what JR4Cy does, its hard to hear outside of the student section. They need to mic up JR4Cy or play the band more because the west side or south side can't hear it.

Could hear it clear as day when i watched the tv replay. Offense is too fast for the band.

They don't play First Down cheer or Third Down cheer anymore when the offense is on the norht end of the field anymore. They hardly get a chance to play at all anymore honestly.

I always feel that they should say "that's a Cyclone firstdown" for the 1st one of the game, then "that's another...." from there on out. Just my thoughts.
Good point, but we HAVE made a first down in the past, so it's not INcorrect to say "another".

Always vaguely wondered about that -- are you an athlete with first hand experience? In basketball, it always seems like the guys feed off the crowd's noisy energy more than it bothers them because they can't hear when we have the ball. Always figured it was similar for football -- and I don't think the crowd is quite as loud when supporting the offense (on a 4th and inches, for example) as they are when trying to support the defense (on a 4th and inches, for example).
