Yep. I was at ISU then, and the wound still feels fresh! I was channeling my inner Larry after that MSU game.
Still, i contend that if the situation was the exact same, but if we had "Kansas" on our jersey, we get the 1 seed. We won the Big 12 regular season and the Big 12 tourney. And had a great record.

I agree. What made it even worse was the fact that we were the "last" 2 seed and got put in the same region with MSU... the tournament's overall number one seeded team. We pretty much got hosed by the seeding process on that one.

Absolutely! Between the 2 seed, getting stuck in MSU's region, and the officiating, we really got bent that year.

I believe we were .500 the year before in Fizer's Soph year and Tinsley was still an unknown, so we got zero respect for much of the season. Being a 2 seed was stupid.

1 seeds
MSU - Cleaves, Mo Pete, Richardson, Bell
Duke - Battier, J Williams, Boozer (young)
Zona - Arenas, R Jefferson (young)
Stanford - Collins, Collins, Madson, Casey Jacobson

I think Zona getting the other 1 seed was probably the one that screwed us, but I believe they were just coming off of a championship and several deep runs.

I don't care what anyone else says, I would love to get a rematch with Iowa at some point in the tournament (this is under the assumption that they get in, I would much rather see them NIT-bound).
No thanks. I remember facing them in the post season once before. The loss essentially erased an ISU win earlier in the year and it ultimately ended up being LE's last loss - to Iowa! Too much bad omen in that one for me.

Wow, I had forgot how relatively easy the front half of that Big 12 schedule was, plus two less conference games overall. This year's Big 12 is much tougher.

I think we have a shot to go undefeated at home this year....if we do that...5 losses in conference seems like a lot. I really hope we figure out this slow start thing and just start blowing mediocre teams out of the water.

I've always thought the point of wanting a rematch was to get a win back against someone we lost to.
Since we beat Iowa, I don't really see the point of playing them again. We've done that.
If it lines up that way, so be it. If not, that's just fine. I'd rather see somebody different.

Of course, the obligatory "I don't want to meet Iowa in the tournament, since I don't want us playing in the NIT."

We absolutely should have been a 1 seed that year!!!

It was definitely possible to make a case, before that tournament, that Iowa State deserved a No. 1 seed. But I’ve said it for years, it only became a “screw jobâ€￾ after the fact.

When the Elite 8 is the following, which Final Four contender (at minimum) is going to feel like it got the shortest straw?

Midwest
1. Michigan State
2. Iowa State
West
8. Wisconsin
6. Purdue
East
5. Florida
3. Oklahoma State
South
8. North Carolina
7. Tulsa

Re: top overall seed: I had thought Arizona was No. 1 overall seed that year, MSU 4th 1 seed — quick research is telling me differently. Up to some point, I recall there wasn’t a true top overall seed (I may be wrong) — if so, does anyone know when that change occured?

I just remember whatever bracket I used for that year's pool, Arizona was in upper left, MSU lower left, which suggests 1st & 4th. CBS bracket history has those lefthand regions flipped.

Yep, any other region and we are a FF team, and maybe win a title on a neutral court.

NIT games don't count. I'd just like to beat them again on a neutral court so their deranged fan base can shut their traps.

If we match up with Iowa in the NCAA I won't watch. I'll record it but will only watch if we win.

For us to lose 5 almost has to mean we lose at Hilton. Or 4 on the road and once in the conference tournament. I don't see us losing 4 on the road this year.
